I'll go along with checking the bore and shooting it first just to see if its worth the effort to re-finish it.
Its gonna need a good bit of polishing before you even consider a re-finish. That will add to the cost unless you do it yourself. But polishing is where a lot of damage is done...
My Standard Product carbine had to have the barrel replaced. Still a G.I. part, but a 1970s replacement. Since collectability was pretty much gone. I decided to bring the old war horse into the 21st Century. 😁
Now before y'all get your panties all in a twist, I do have all the original...
I don't know if you'd call it famous, but I have a S&W 2nd Model 44 HE that lettered as going to the Police Dept of Joplin, MO in January of 1924. I'll bet its had an interesting life.
A 10 year old Timex that I believe I gave about $30 for. Keeps perfect time. That's all I need.
When I was still working, I was hard on watches. Then I wore the $2 Wal-Mart specials and often bought 2 at a time. ;)
The biggest problem with the current S&W revolvers is that QC absolutely sucks. Far too many brand new guns are having to back to the factory for issues that should never have left the factory to begin with. Getting a good new revolver is a coin toss. 🤬
I always thought that destroying Confederate history was a stupid idea. But then, those who do it don't want the current population getting any ideas. Its all about control.
I've got more than enough guns. Way more. My wish list is down to just a few very hard to find and very expensive items. I doubt I'll ever get them.
However, I live alone so there' always something around the house to keep me busy.
My club has an Action Pistol range that's used mostly for USPSA and IDPA competition. Here you can draw from the holster, use barricades and run and gun or whatever. On weekdays its mostly open to whoever wants to use it. However, you do have to qualify to be allowed to use it. Usually shooting...
My older son has big feet. He's a big boy. Once an older gentleman saw his shoes and asked what size are those?
My son replied "14 Quad E."
The old man said "You ain't in no danger of tipping over." 😁
So they just moved the old fanny pack holster up onto the chest? Actually, you could take a regular fanny pack and wear it across your shoulder like that. Nothing new here.
My Daddy always administered my whoopin's. He used his hand or the belt.
Now Grandma would make me go out a cut her a switch. And it better be a goodun cause you sure didn't want her to have to go get her own.
Not really my thing, but I'm a firm believer in .22 cal versions of common defensive arms for training.
I have .22 versions of a S&W K-frame, Walther PPK/S, 1911, Hi-Power and an M&P-15-22.
This gun should appeal to the plastic crowd.
