    Republic P-47 Thunderbolt — America’s Flying Tank

Great article. My dad was a gunner on a B24 and I am sure if he was still on the planet he could tell me some more stories of his adventure. He did earn 4 Air Medals and I never knew that until he passed and I was going through his military records. RIP Warrior!

    Republic P-47 Thunderbolt — America’s Flying Tank

I think you are remembering an A1E Skyraider, the Spad. Look similar to the Jug. But I could be wrong. Maybe the French had them and some RVN pilots flew them when the US started in that theater.

Exercise Tiger — Kriegsmarine Attack at Slapton Sands

Good read. Have read about this before and read an account from the German side. I guess the Allied forces believed they were relatively safe while eating mutton in the UK with little if any contact with the German forces. It got real, real fast for them, troops and leaders alike. Security for...

Do You Own Too Many Guns?

Don't own too many guns but definitely own too many guitars! The guns I have I am intimately familiar with. Out of the large inventory of guitars I am intimately familiar with only three, the others just sit in their cases in storage. Those three and the guns are always within arms reach.

Convair B-58 Hustler — The Strategic Bomber Built to End the World

I'm thinking this A/C is featured in the movie FAIL-SAFE. When I was a kid this was the model airplane to build that was the heat.

Reasons for Concealed Carry: My Interview with a Psychopath

At one time people like Frank would never be allowed to roam free. I believe it was during the 80s that Congress, including President Reagan said it was cruel to keep people like Frank off the streets and in mental institutions. So the law that kept 'them' in was changed and 'they' let 'them'...

    What are we reading?

'The Citizens of London'. Excellent account of the major personalities living and working in London just prior to and during WWII till the wars end.

    Anyone else into cooking?

'I've been nursing along a batch of pasta sauce that seems to be perpetual, and it has only gotten better.' When I cook spaghetti sauce it is a two hour event. It is killer. I started making this sauce with the recipe that was in the Chicago Tribune newspaper when Joe Valachi...

T-62 Tank — Cold War Soviet MBT Returns to Combat

Worked with a Kuwaiti armor unit for a few years. They had Yugoslav M84 MBTs and BMPs for the mech guys. It should be noted this purchase of the equipment came with Serb maintenance crews as part of the deal. The M84 is a T72, and it is a POS. The bimps also garbage death traps as the fuel cells...

Enjoyable read on a subject you don't see very often. I did see one of these A/C at the Pima Air Museum.

    Fairchild AC-119 — Vietnam’s Accidental Gunship

When I was on the Long Dong Valley trip only the C47 Puff was running CAS. But I did jump from the C119 when I went to Jump School at Ft Benning. Guess that dates me pretty much as an old geezer. Later on in my life adventure I did have access to and used Specter on a few occasions. Life was...

Ayoob: Is It Time to Retire the 1911?

American iron, keep the polymer at the range. Spent many years in the field, forest, jungle, desert, 1911 never failed me. Can't say the same about the Beretta and the few 'plastic' guns I tried.
