    New S&W SD9

Nothing crazy “new” to it, but the old excessive trigger is upgraded. I’m not certain about the springs everyone changes out though. Some change to the slide serrations (the old ones were fine, to me). Retains a low price point, so a VERY good value, imho...

    Interesting vid about self-def insurance

Interesting vid for informational purposes… that is, if you’re like me and haven’t studied this stuff much.

    Latest acquisition

Cloudy Sun morning here, and I’ve got a slight cold, so i just finished cleaning & lubing one of my latest* buys. Sorry about the bad pics. One is with a lamp and one window only. It needs its final wipedown, too.. I believe this is one of the classiest (in a gun sense of the word) pistols out...

    Help- stripped 1911 grip screw

I’m seeking help for someone (at work) with a stripped Hex head 1911 grip screw… No Loctite involved (evidently the others came of easily) but this one maybe had a gnarly socket hole to start with… He has a Dremel with a cutting wheel and is willing to have a cut grip panel (to make a slot for a...

    Ultrasonic cleaning and Cerakote

Was at an LGS today, when my usual guy was off. Another guy i recognized checked out my purchases. Asked him about a new sign that said “Cleaning Service $30 & up” etc and i he said they do ultrasonic. We talked a minute, and he mentioned they can’t do Cerakote, as ultrasonic takes it off...

    Stevens 334 - any good?

LGS has a Labor Day sale coming up, and one offering is Stevens 334 in synthetic for $340 or turkish walnut for $410. (I believe these only come in .308 ? But thats a solid old rifle caliber anyway). Ques: If you own one, would you pick it again? Accuracy? Any known issues? Is the quality...

    RIA - slide disconnector indent

To all knowledgeable about 1911s, RIA, etc. I dug out my second 1911, bought NIB several yrs ago - RIA Ultra in 9mm. Very sweet shooter iirc but i soon went back to .45 as far as ‘traditional’ 1911s go… I also haven’t fired or fooled with this one in maybe 4 yrs. Take a look at the underside...

Happy Easter ! I hope this finds you with family and/or good friends, remembering the “reason for the season” ✝️ Regardless, wishing you peace and goodwill…😉 I’m taking a day of rest & relaxing by just doing whatever I want. A little Bob Seger on, back door open and cleaning my darlings. I’m...

    Latest from The Sheriff

One outstanding point: Avoid teaching Triggernometry to newbies or those with no intention of diving deep. “They don’t need to know all about firearms, but they do need to know how their particular gun works, loading and unloading, and how to disassemble for cleaning and, of course, safe...

    Something everyone oughta read

Apologies if already posted elsewhere on TAL, but this is an excellent read... Please be sure to go to the end of the incident blurbs in the last half. Doesn’t take long a’tall…. It’s in line with the post “Another good guy with a gun”. I’m keeping this one bookmarked, and printing a copy...

    New gun, barrel uncleaned?

Is it common or reasonable that a new gun (NIB) in the price range of $1900, would arrive with the barrel filthy from test fire ? Feed ramp, too… Just seeking input; thanx… TWave

    Lubrication: GunBlue490 vid

Curious to know what others think of this video (on YouTube, of course). Specifically, Yea or Nay to his opinions about plain mineral oil on firearms. My own interest is its use on 1911s; comments about that are welcomed. It’s a bit long but bear with it if you can…

What makes a good Instructor !

I have an minor interest in the “psychology” of learning. Of course it takes desire, and a certain minimal level of intelligence on the part of the student. But here’s what it takes to be a great instructor. I’d only add one thing: ability if the teacher to note the progress of his/her student...

    Kooky fake bank texts

Guys n Gals, I rec’d this text message (see pic) just a bit ago. Thought I’d post as a caution. I do NOT have a bank of America account. If I ever did, it was perhaps a car financing years ago (which got refinanced to another lender). Note the spelling of the first “Acount” in their name. Of...

    1911 ambi safety removal

Ok. I’ve got my Tisas Carry .45 and I want to install a single side safety. Moving the lever to the halfway point - or any other point - hasn’t allowed me to wiggle it out. Anybody know any tricks that don’t involve MSH disassembly?
