.357 Magnum vs .44 Magnum Lever Actions

I own both because I like lever actions, but I would take the .357 if I could only have one. The pre-pandemic availability of .357 and .38 special ammo made the .357 much cheaper to take plinking or target shooting. For hunting duties, I am of the opinion that quality .357 loads are plenty capable of effectively and ethically taking game. This comes with the disclaimer that my only hunting opportunities involve hogs and deer at ranges of less than about 150 yards. You might need the .44 if you want to take larger game, but I think the range would be about the same. My .44 Mag. Marlin 1894 is a great rifle, but ammo cost alone keeps it from being my go-to levergun when I head out to the land.
