I was following this however unfortunately the media reporting this move kept calling the ship a submarine.
Unbelievable.

Only temporarily. the USS NJ will be back in Camden in a few months.
Actually, nothing gets out of NJ. the USS Ling, the sub i mentioned and attached a link to, is essentially stranded where it it sits. There was a push to move it after it was vandalized and partially flooded. However, the river where it is docked, the Hackensack River, is no longer navigable for a vessel that size. The channel has been filled in with silt over the years and there is no budget to dredge the river. To add a very NJ "topper" to the whole mess.... the silt is full of toxic sludge from years of unregulated industry that took place in that area in the early to mid-20th century. That river will never be dredged because it is basically, a superfund sight.

Just in case you missed it, the museum ship USS New Jersey (BB-62) this week left her pier at Camden, where she has sat for the past 30 years, headed down the Delaware River on her way to dry docki…

BTW - Been on the USS Missouri at Pearl, the USS North Carolina at Wilmington, and USS Massachusetts at Fall River.

Three separate classes; Iowa, North Carolina, South Dakota of BB.
 
The Battleship Texas is undergoing a similar renovation. They have already completed the dry dock portion of the renovation, and are currently completing the work.
 
the battle ship museums and such are part of a big coop of sorts
lots of experts for the ships repairs, guns, all kinds of stuff share space, tool, gear, expertise etc
they have a huge yard full of battle ship "PARTS" that get overhauled and put back on.
its really a great system
its nice to see these big babies getting some love and fresh paint
