Will a holster for an XDM 3.8 work for an XDM elite 3.8.

Honestly if both are same size and width then I can see no reason it won't. If it's a kydex I have been able to heat and rework a bit

Crossbreed makes Elite specific holsters. The Ambi slide release is the problem with some XDM holsters.

I ran into this same problem when i purchased my Elite, Black Rhino Concealment makes holsters that will work with the ambi slide release.

Hello, new member here. A quick answer to your question is YES. I have a holster from We The People for my XDm .45 3.8 compact and I just verified that it does indeed fit my brand new XDm Elite 3.8 (9mm) with one small caveat...

The ambidextrous slide catch does catch the side of the holster on the right side of the pistol. I can easily push the pistol past without any issues but I think in the end I should probably look for a proper fitting holster. Plus, constant holstering/unholstering will cause finish wear on that side.
