I used to really love Cold Steel knives; but the blade is just 1/3 of the tool (Blade, Handle, and Sheathe). Cold Steel used to do all three great; but some time ago they cheaped out on their sheathes. Im not sure whos nephew they hired that decided to go for the cheapest plastic POS sheathe; but he needs to be given a vacation and told not to return.
I still have their original TANTO. Thats was a great knife
Article talks about Cold Steel popularizing the Tanto piont, yet doesn't include one.
That's the knife I have in hand now, a Code4 Tanto blade.
Tanto's are great because they are easy to sharpen, have a robust tip and secondary piont.
Probably own a dozen Cold Steel knives.
The SRK is my lunchbox knife.
I even sprung for the signature autographed Bowie.
The company today is owned by someone with Mr. Thompson as the ceo.
This means you have to watch for the Chyner mans sneaking in something really cheap.
For instance, I like the overall shape of the Luzon but I don't own one.
I took a Trail Master Bowie to war. It was big but that was comforting....and it came with a good sheathe. In addition to the original Tanto, I have a san mi Tanto and a few others. IF theyd offer quality sheathes as an up grade, they might win me back.
They used to offer the Blackjack line (I think from Blackie Collins) and had a decent copy of the Randall #1 with a nice sheathe which included a sharpening stone.
I was a huge fan of Cold Steel but its hard to like the Walmart quality that theyve become
Like others have said, Cold Steel used to be better. That said, my daily carry is a Ranch Boss II. I don't have much need for "tactical" these days, but I do need a solid, medium sized folder, and I've been really pleased with this one.
