Hellcat Firing Bins reported broken

There have been a few posts on Facebook about broken firing pins. I've seen three this week. I saw a post here about it being related to dry firing. Most modern handguns should be fine with dry firing, but now it looks it's not just dry firing. Any personal accounts of this? Any idea of what's going on? As many are saying, these are being used as EDCs, this could be a major issue if it happens in an emergency situation.
Would there be a way to track if there were a certain lot with defects? Is there a way to check for defects? Serial numbers? Any thoughts?

Well, you can look up any gun, and you can find that they break. What is important is how the company makes it right. Springfield has a lifetime warranty, and when things have broken in the past. You can call them up, you send it back, and it comes back fixed.

So as far as is there a problem, for those users for sure. But both of those users had separate issues. On one the tip broke, on another the lug broke. So most likely it is not the "same" issue with a widespread defect. Does two guns with different malfunctions out of thousands and thousands of guns mean it it is a widespread issue probably not. That is why you keep up with the maintenance and inspect the parts with any mechanical device.

As far as tracking you would have to get those users to provide the info.

Personally I haven't heard or read of any issues with the striker pin breaking like you mentioned here. And also my opinion, I don’t believe anything on social media, most just post stuff to see what kind of rise they can get out of it, but thanks for posting it.

Every single mass manufactured product, gun or otherwise, has a defect %. What’s important is if that number is high and what the company does in response. Despite the internet echo chamber the number of Hellcat striker issues is minuscule and Springfield stands behind their products.

BTW- The Hellcat manual does NOT prohibit dry firing. It says to be a safe firearms owner you should practice operation with snap caps which is sound training advice because your training should mimic real life as closely as possible.

I upgraded from dummy rounds to snap caps for my XD-S to reduce wear on the firing pin.
