for Confederate General's Dad.

The name of the Confederate general was removed from the base in 2023, but will be restored, this time with his father as the namesake.

The Army National Guard doesn't have "bases" they have "Camps".

It's weird to me that they would have a camp when Fort Polk is available.

Trivia: Fort Polk is supposedly the inspiration for Camp Swampy in Beetle Bailey

Indiana has a similar set up (or did before BRAC) they had the active duty Army at Ft Ben Harrison NE Indy and then Camp Atterbury north of Columbus off I 65
So they are really 2 entities. (FT Ben Harrison conducts all the MEPS stuff now for most of Indiana )

As far as Camp B they are home to the US Marshals Service Spexial Operations Group (SOG)

Bureau of Prisons SORT did a lot of cross training there back in the day!

There's a National Guard Camp in Wyoming called Camp Guernsey. I wouldn't mind living in Guernsey. But in all my time in the Guard we only went there once.

A military base is a military base regardless of its "Formal" name/designation.

Military bases, installations, and facilities can have various designations depending on their function, branch of service, and the specific activities conducted there. Some common designations include: Fort, Camp, Base, Station, Yard, Range, and Facility.

General Designations:
  • Fort: Typically used by the Army for permanent or semi-permanent garrisons.
  • Camp: Commonly used by the Marine Corps.
  • Base: A general term for a location where military operations are conducted, often used by the Air Force and Navy.
  • Station: Can refer to a location for a specific type of activity, like a Naval Air Station or a Coast Guard Station.
  • Yard: Often associated with naval facilities like shipyards.
  • Range: Used for training and testing military weapons and equipment.
  • Facility: A broad term for any place where military activities take place.

    Other Designations:
  • Joint Base: A base where two or more branches of the military share resources and facilities.
  • Forward Operating Base (FOB): A temporary or semi-permanent base in a forward location, often used for operations in a combat zone.
  • Airfield/Airbase: Used for military aircraft operations.
  • Naval Base: A base for naval operations, potentially including ship repair and supply.
  • Naval Air Station: A base for naval aviation operations.
  • Naval Dockyard/Shipyard: Facilities for building, repairing, and maintaining ships.
  • Arsenal/Magazine: Facilities for storing and maintaining weapons and ammunition.
  • Barracks: Buildings for housing military personnel.
  • Cantonment: A more permanent type of military camp.
  • Combat Outpost (COP)/Outpost: Smaller, more temporary locations in forward areas.
  • Proving Ground: A location for testing military equipment and systems.
  • Reservation: A general term for a military area, often used in the context of training or testing.
Examples:
  • Fort: Fort Bragg (Army), Fort Hood (Army)
  • Camp: Camp Lejeune (Marine Corps), Camp Pendleton (Marine Corps)
  • Base: Nellis Air Force Base, Eglin Air Force Base
  • Naval Base: Naval Base Coronado

When I hear somebody calling an Army Post a Base I know they have no clue what they're talking about.
( not intended towards you I know you know what you're talking about)
Kind of like when they talk about Navy "soldiers".

Well, kinda sorta, A barracks designation isn't limited to military housing, Campbell Barracks had billeting but was also USAREUR 7th Army HQ and contained Corps level command of all branches under the 7th Army as well as some NATO support elements. My intelligence office was bombed May 24, 1972!

Wouldn't a Navy soldier be a Marine?

Actually, corps level command was:

VII Corps - Kelley Barracks, Stuttgart
V Corps - Abrams Bldg. , Frankfurt Am Main

7th Army was dual hatted. The commander was also the Deputy USAREUR commander. If war came, commander of USAREUR, a four star, would be the Central Army Group (CENTAG) commander while his aforementioned deputy, a three star, would be 7th Army commander. Central Army Group would be comprised of 7th US Army, 1st French Army, and a West German Army Corps (I forget which one).

One of my duty stations was on Guam, while I was in the Marine Corps. I was on Marine Corps Barracks Duty/Security Forces Duty. The majority of my time on Guam was when I was stationed on the Naval Magazine, Guam. I was briefly stationed on Naval Station Guam, at the Marine Barracks Guam, which does not exist anymore. And until just recently as a civilian, I worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot from where I just retired. The list of bases and installations goes on. I was also stationed at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, GA while still doing USMC Security Force Duty.
