Every home is different. The people that live there know its every nook and cranny. Invaders have no idea.
Shut off the main power. Black it out. Take up a defensible position somewhere clever, like the base of the stairs for instance. Once they go upstairs they have to come down. Badda beep, badda boop, you end up with ringing ears and a lot of dry cleaning to do.
Break out the bleach..
A family with kids.. that would be a lot more difficult trying to defend. Teach them your contingency plans in advance. Arm the ones that can shoot and are mature and steady. I've read of 13 year olds stopping invaders.
