Most Common Reason to Switch EDC?

When Shot Show rolls around each year, I get overwhelmed by the amount of new product. I’m not a big hunter, and am still perfectly happy with the long guns that I currently own. I do carry a handgun each day, so I keep up with new pistols.

I’ve changed my EDC several times in my life. I bought a Glock 27 as my backup/off-duty gun as a young police officer, but switched to a Beretta PX4 Storm Compact when my kids were young because I wanted something with an external safety. When my kids got older, I started switching between the Glock 26 and Glock 19. I made my most recent change when the Sig Sauer P365 was released.

By my count, the majority of my EDC changes occurred because my life changed. Only the switch to the P365 occurred because of a newly-released or innovative product release. It got me wondering how often the other forum members change EDC guns. When you change your EDC, is it usually because of a newly-released model, or is it more likely to be due to change in personal circumstances?

Season change/clothes and boredom

I have too many great pistols to sit idle.
Thoroughbreds need to run.
I CC between 5-6 pistols yearly

I change when I find something I think I might like better then my current setup. Currently it's a Hellcat OSP. I also have a P365X, G43X, DW Guardian 9mm and G42 in my lineup. I have a bunch of other stuff, but I seem to gravitate to the small 9's. In reality, my G42 and G43 is really all I need, but I'm always looking for that perfect micro 9. Plus it's fun!

For me it’s circumstantial, I no longer own a 9mm handgun so my choices are my 40Mod2 Subcompact and newly purchased XDM’s in 45ACP 4.5 full size and 10mm Elite Compact.
I do have my new Taurus revolver but don’t have a holster for it yet.
My Mod2 rests in my Galco OWB at
3-3:30 and conceals extremely well so I carry that when I don’t want anyone to know I’m carrying.
When I’m doing an armed escort job it’s my 45 in a level 3 SafariLand holster that’s impossible to conceal due to the nature of the holster.
My 10mm has a Blackhawk Serpa for level 1 retention and will still work when I mount my Holosun and that along with my 45 will be my carry during wildlife rescue calls.

I have quite a few that tick all the boxes for a carry gun. I carry different ones depending on clothing, where I'm going, etc.. I haven't felt the need to "Upgrade" to any new carry guns in awhile, although the Shield Plus is tempting. When they make one in .45 I'll start thinking about it.

I generally change twice a year for seasons. But to buy something new entirely for carry, generally a perceived need, or something really attracts my attention.

I gave and modified, added laser and light, my 637 to my wife for her bedside and sold my Bulldog because of arthritis so I bought the Model 60 and the Taurus 380 revolver. I sold my 45 acps due to arthritis so I bought the Browning 1911. I gave my son in law my Makarov so I bought the Sig p365xl for my GHB I carry.

I only have 1 EDC, the Hellcat. I dress to conceal, mostly. What is concealed? I dont open carry OWB but sometimes my butt sticks out. Of my pistol. I changed my EDC from 40 Shield to the Hellcat because it was new and smaller.
I will probably change when something new and sexier comes out. I would like to go to a full size 45 but they are harder to conceal.

I am considering a 45 shield.

We have tons of threads going on the subject so I wont get into finite details, but I will say one thing on EDC:

PRACTICE YOUR DRAW & SHOOT !

Dont stand in a practice lane and shoot static stance.
Find a place to draw, shoot and if possible, move.
You need to learn technique and accuracy. Not just accuracy

A longer tailed t-shirt can help if you are self conscious about your butt. 😉

Mostly been carrying an LC9S PRO since it came out. I occasionally carry a Sig P238 Scorpion but it really collects a lot of dirt in the hammer area which is why I bought the LC9S. I also on rare occasion pocket carry an LCP II with a green Viridian laser, usually in the summer with shorts on.

I would love to get a P365XL and a Hellcat RDP one day but I guess I just haven't justified it to myself yet, I'm slow that way. I really enjoyed shooting my brother-in-law's Hellcat RDP, so that may be next ... after I justify it lol.

My EDC is a Sig P239 in 9mm since 1999. I chose it because I carried a P228 on duty, so they both work the same. I'm no longer "on duty," so I could carry something more up to date. The P239 is now out of production, and there are many options which are smaller, lighter, and have greater capacity, but none of the advantages are so overwhelming that I feel the need to change. The bad guys can carry whatever they want. They don't want to go up against me and my "old fashioned" pistol.
