I love my ARs, but they were designed as weapons of war. Just like the M1 Garand, 1903, some Enfield muskets, many swords, some longbows, a hatchet made of flint, etc. Who cares how it's classified? Get what you like and don't go killing innocent people.

Fine. The m16 was designed as a weapon of war and the AR15 is the semi auto, civilian legal version of it, but essentially the same mechanism absent full auto or burst fire. Just as a M1a is a semi auto, but more precise, m14. Go ahead and split hairs some more. My point stands. Get what you want, don't kill innocent people, and forget about labels.

'Of war' and 'for war,' there is a distinction. Using the preposition, 'for' instead of 'of', could have changed the whole perception and acceptance of some of these firearms.
