As if we need Allies to defend our country from Russia. NATO is pretty much a one way street. We will defend the signatories if they are attacked but is anyone under the illusion that any European country will send troops to defend the US homeland ?

I don't think we'd have any problem if Hawaii was attacked. All the members know what the alliance stands for. And they stepped up for us after 9/11 as we would for them. That singular thing is the power of NATO.
