Springfield Armory M1A Scout Squad Review

I have the standard issue walnut model and it shoots very well! But I do wonder, is it normal that the rear peep sight can wobble side to side? Is this also with the original M14s?

I have the M1A "tanker" I purchased earlier this year. I wanted one for a long time and my local gun shop made me a fantastic offer on it. Other than the gun itself, I thought the paperwork that comes with it is fantastic. I never expected a detailed operations manual that had a first copyright from 1963! It's not the most comfortable gun to shoot, but it's the most fun. It gets a lot of attention at the range.

The Scout Squad is the weapon I purchased, but I opted for the synthetic stock rather than the wood. Your article was dead on about accuracy. Whether you use the open sights or an optic. Because of my older eyes the optic is a big help.

You wouldn't have the Scout if you didn't first have the Bush version.

I used to carry an M-2 when in the USAF. Had to qualify expert with it and my 1911 every six months for four years. Both worked great.
As for a scout, I have a Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308. Another great rifle what works for me!

That what I have on my Ruger GSR. It's a good scout scope but not illuminated and the reticle isn't very specific - antiquated.
It's a niche category since J. Cooper passed.

Burris makes this one.

I have a XTR Burris 1 x 6 Scope on my Ruger Gunsite Scout on a P.E.P.R. Mount. Works for me. Oh, I did switch out the rail as the OEM aperature was too small, the XS is larger and I can see through it!.
