I had a class in undergrad called "War and the Christian Conscience," taught by an Air Force Reserve colonel and a Mennonite professor. They didn't teach much, as it was a philosophy elective, in favor of just prompting conversations among the students. It was frustrating, as a guy ten years older than the rest of the class who had some time in the USMC and who grew up the child of a paratrooper and the grandson of a sailor and an Army/CIA intelligence officer, to hear the poorly thought out rantings of 20 years olds who were at the school by the grace of their wealthy parents. I'll have to read that book to see if Mr. Kopel has a more informed and nuanced take on the issues.
