How do answer this mentality ?

Not one to talk about politics in todays environment.Especially around strangers.There was a discussion going on at our table in regards to the recent mall shooting.We all pretty much know the details now.A woman sitting across from me asked as to why this 22 years old man who shot the suspect was allowed to have a gun.He was not a police officer and it was not his job to kill the shooter.I said nothing,but others at thetable attempted to explain that the young man,was in fact a hero.Had they waited for the police.Many others would have been killed.It is said that in less the 30 or 45 seconds.The young man had put 8 of 10 rounds in the shooter.The woman would have none of it.He was not a policman and had no right to kill the man.And so goes America.Go figure

You don’t answer. You’d have better luck convincing a soda can that that he did the right thing.
“If they will not listen, shake the dust of that town from your sandals”.
 
Ok, don’t know how to say this but here goes, todays younger culture has no ideal of how things/life actually works, it’s not really there fault though, it’s the way society has in turn raised them. With all of todays social media, most don’t understand things like when we were brought up with no media, just the news, papers and tv and our parents, If it doesn’t fit there narrative, they don’t understand or they want nothing to do with it. This is just my thoughts, with nothing against any person, regardless of age, it’s just how I see it. If my reply offended anyone, I apologize as it wasn’t meant to.
 
She’s wrong. He had the right to protect the innocent. He didn’t have the duty to. It’s a pretty basic concept. Which tells you a lot about this woman. Most importantly it tells you she’s an idiot and not worth wasting any time on.

She most likely had parents that told her over and over again that if anything happens call the police and wait for them to protect her. In her mind this is how it is. Being a sheep is easy because it takes no energy to think another way.
 
To this woman I’d say “so you would just let people die from this crazed gunman, even though you or someone could stop them even though they weren’t a policeman?”
Then I’d ask “so if you came upon an injured person that was cut bad by flying glass, and you could stop the bleeding by applying pressure, you’d just stand there and watch that person bleed out because you were neither a nurse nor a doctor?”
I’m sure there are other analogies that could be used in my example above, but if she did confirm yes, on watching someone die because she wasn’t in the profession that would have more expertise then her to help, then I’d call her a horrible human being.

These are the type of folks who pull a cell phone out to hit record when someone’s life is in danger from say slipping down the icy stairs rather than help them up

She would also think otherwise if she had family sitting at a table in the mall food court next to the shooter
 
I grew up in a family who did not embrace firearms and in a community who, like their religion and politics, kept whether they had guns to themselves. Many of them felt similarly to the woman described above that it was not up to the general public to police the rest of society and felt threatened by those who who were very vocally opposed. Those people who felt threatened weren’t lefties, or socialists or communists and they sure as hell weren’t sheep. These people were Americans who had fought in the wars and taught generations of kids, who sat next to us in church and would have given you the shirt off their back. If we can’t recognize that those people, my Mom and Dad, the Opies - the family down the street who let all the kids in the neighborhood play on the massive swing set in the back yard and Walter the mailman who used to take our Collie on his rounds back when mailmen walked places, are no more deluded than you or me then how do we ensure that this Republic endures and doesn’t become a faded memory of the dream that was?

Much wisdom in your post. The woman in OP's discussion probably has no concept of real work, how to produce anything, how to contribute to society, or of what it takes to make a community safe. And the reality of the situation is probably too horrible for her to face. We Boomers are at fault for not raising so many of these snowflakes outside of their fantasy bubble.
 
I have a neighbor who loathes guns. She knows what I do for a living and she goes on to tell me one day not too long ago that even us Cops shouldn't have guns. She claims that if you're a good person you can talk to anyone and don't need a gun. Really ? So after having to bite my tongue I just told her to have a nice day and went onto my day. I have thought about what she said for some time and came to the realization that talking to her is fruitless. Oh and she's around my age as well early fifties.
 
Yup. save your breath. A friend (left leaning guy) was shocked that i got a handgun for home defense and droned on about how i should focus on deescalation techniques rather than having a gun. I said that the person breaking into my house at 3 AM will most likely not respond to, nor care about, deescalation. They are there for a no good reason and using a “soothing tone” while asking them to leave and that the “police are on there way” will most likely not work. My friend and i don’t talk about guns anymore.

I guess I thought we were talking about a lady who thinks that the guy who took out the shooter had no right to do so, not mailmen and neighbors who didn’t embrace firearms.

If any of your neighbors, veterans, parents or mailmen agree with this lady then they ARE delusional.

It is one of the du jour fantasy attitudes among liberals. It vanishes instantly at the sound of breaking glass in your home in the middle of the night, or gunfire in public spaces.
 
Some folks couldn’t figure out gravity. Clint Smith said it best “Hell hath no fury like a butt kicked liberal”

People that think like she does will continue to think that way until they become a victim! We hear it from about every liberal that becomes pro gun. There is usually a story on their little bubble getting busted by reality

well then, someone should have asked her, if she was in the mall, walmart, Kroger, PigglyWiggly, and shots were being fired, in her direction, and someone, not a cop mind you, took a stand and protected her life, bu shooting at the killer, would she still be against that shooting?

i'd always try to put the dummy that says such dumb crap, INTO that situation and then listen to their answers.

i think that's what needs to be done...a bubble bursting mob, going thru the cities, where these idjuts live.

like i think some west coast cities are already experiencing.
