US, Israel launch attack on Iran as Trump announces 'major combat operations'

Well, Kuwait just bought themselves 3 new replacement costs on F-15 Strike Eagles.

Kuwait accidentally shot down not 1, but 3 of our F-15E Strike Eagles !!

@KillerFord1977

Yea, there better have been a direct deposit from Kuwait to the USAF for 3 new F-15EXs with some Bonus amount included.

Apparently, the Kuwaiti Patriot batteries were set on auto-fire with no man-in-the-loop.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The combined force continues to degrade Iran’s retaliatory capabilities. Satellite imagery captured on March 2 shows damage to a missile base near Najafabad, Esfahan Province. The imagery shows three impact points likely caused by bunker buster bombs.
  • The combined force has continued to attack Iranian naval assets in order to prevent Iran’s navies from being able to conduct retaliatory attacks against international shipping and US Navy vessels. Commercially available satellite imagery shows that the combined force struck the Artesh Navy IRIS Kurdistan in the Bandar Abbas Port in Hormozgan Province. Geolocated imagery also shows a smoke plume at the IRGC Navy 3rd Naval District in Bandar Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province. Bandar Mahshahr is located at the north of the Persian Gulf.
  • The combined force continued to target Iran’s internal security apparatus. Commercially available satellite imagery shows that the combined force damaged a building at the Fifth Tehran Municipality Quds Basij Resistance Regional Base in northwestern Tehran in airstrikes on March 1. This base is one of the 23 Basij regional bases in Tehran. These bases operate under the IRGC Ground Forces Mohammad Rasoul Ollah Provincial Unit, which operates under the IRGC Ground Forces Sarallah Headquarters.
  • The IDF assesses that Iran is attempting to launch larger and more coordinated missile barrages at Israel but is struggling to do so because of IDF strikes on Iranian missile launchers. The IDF estimates that Iran has launched between nine and 30 missiles per attack over the past day, in contrast to between two and three missiles per attack on February 28. The IDF had destroyed about half of Iran’s missile launchers as of March 1.
  • US sources told a US journalist that Iranian Shahed drones are “so far the most dangerous threat.” The sources stated that Iranian Shahed drones are getting through some air defenses. CTP-ISW has not observed reports of drone impacts in Israel, but Iranian drones have struck several Gulf countries. Iran has primarily used ballistic missiles to attack Israel, but has relied on drones to attack Gulf countries.
  • Iran is increasingly targeting energy infrastructure in Gulf countries, likely to impose a cost on international markets to compel the United States and its partners to pursue a ceasefire before achieving their objective of toppling the regime. Iran’s attacks on Gulf energy infrastructure may cause the Gulf states to retaliate and join the conflict.
  • Hezbollah launched rockets and drones targeting the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Mishmar al Karmel missile defense site in Haifa, northern Israel, on March 1. The IDF launched retaliatory airstrikes targeting Hezbollah leadership in Beirut’s southern suburbs and Hezbollah sites across Lebanon on March 1 and 2. The strikes killed Hussein Mekeld and Mohammad Raad.

Note: The US sub directed the Mk.48 to hit in the stern area to protect as many of the crew but still sink the ship.

Key Takeaways

  1. The United States and Israel have continued to attack Iranian internal security institutions. The combined force also continued to target police stations, including an Iranian Cyber Police (FATA) station in Kermanshah, Kermanshah Province.
  2. The US-Israeli combined force continued to degrade Iran’s ballistic missile and drone infrastructure in Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper stated on March 3 that the combined force has “severely degraded” Iran’s air defenses and destroyed hundreds of Iran’s ballistic missiles, drones, and launchers.
  3. The combined force continued to target Iranian defense industrial sites. The combined force struck at least two buildings at the Khojir Missile Production Complex in Hajarabad, Tehran Province.
  4. The combined force continued to attack Iranian naval capabilities. CENTCOM announced on March 4 that the United States has struck or sunk more than 20 Iranian ships.
  5. US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on March 4 that the number of ballistic missiles Iran has fired regionally has decreased 86 percent since the start of the combined force’s campaign on February 28, with a 23 percent decrease in the past 24 hours. The combined force has designed its campaign to destroy Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities before the force depletes its interceptor stockpiles.
  6. Hezbollah has conducted several attacks targeting IDF positions and forces in northern Israel and southern Lebanon since ISW-CTP’s last data cutoff. Hezbollah launched two rocket attacks targeting Israeli forces in northern Israel, as well as a rocket attack targeting the Haifa Naval Base on March 3.

Key Takeaways

  1. The combined force has continued to degrade Iran’s ballistic missile and drone capabilities to disrupt Iran’s ability to launch retaliatory attacks against Israel and US forces. The decrease in retaliatory Iranian drone and missile attacks strongly suggests that the US-Israeli effort to destroy Iran’s ballistic missile and drone capabilities has had considerable success.
  2. The combined force has continued to target Iran’s internal security and government institutions. The strikes were concentrated in Tehran and northwestern Iran. The regime has historically been concerned about anti-regime activity in northwestern Iran.
  3. Iran launched attacks targeting Turkey and Azerbaijan on March 4 and 5. These attacks mark the 10th and 11th countries to come under Iranian fire.
  4. Hezbollah claimed that the group conducted 7 attacks targeting Israel Defense Forces (IDF) positions and forces in northern Israel and southern Lebanon since ISW-CTP’s last data cutoff at 4:00 PM ET on March 4. Hezbollah claimed on March 4 that its fighters engaged Israeli ground forces in Dhayra, Tyre District, and Khiam, Marjaayoun. These mark the first direct engagements between Hezbollah and the IDF since the fall 2024 Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
