Is there really that much difference

When I carried a Glock 17 and a spare that was 34 rounds. When I carry a 1911 (45acp) I carry a spare mag (16 rounds). Both options seem OK. I dont buy into the 45acp is the Hammer of the Gods, nor do I feel underarmed with a 9mm. I carry a spare mag like I carry a spare tyre. I probably wont need it; but Im more likely to have a mag related problem then a total gun failure.

Dont get me wrong there are times I carry two spare mags OR a 5.7 with 70 rounds (2 spare mags), and Im the guy that wants a mag pouch that holds SIX 1911 mags. Has ammo quality and bullet performance changed that much?

we can only have 10 round mags here.

the president of my gun club said, he'd be pretty diappointed if it takes more than that to stop the threat.

i do not carry an extra mag, and haven't since i got my ccw back in 2021.

mostly its a weight issue, coupled with where do i put it..???

as it is with my body frame, concealed works best for me, with out any sort of "printing"

IDK if that logic works, lets try it this way: Id be pretty disappointed if I needed to change a flat tyre; but I always carry a spare. I suppose Its all about the location and situation

My question was more about cartridge / ammo types
well in that case, i'd need an erector set and heavy duty suspenders to keep my pants from falling down, if i carried a 45......????

then add the extra weight(s) of extra magazines....?

K...????

Sorry to hear that. I can loan you some bungee cords
they had better be extra heavy duty

point is Peter, does it really matter what YOU carry..??

shot placement is more important than caliber or number of rounds one carries.

if YOU need to carry a 45, and then maybe 6 magazines, are you defending yourself to stop the threat or are YOU looking for a personal war, by going into areas you perhaps should never go to...???

is someone trying to prove something to others, carrying all that ammo...????

to me, it may prove, that one is a bad shooter, and needs to constantly reload

I find myself in this camp, although I am not sure what you consider "ammo quality," and "bullet performance," as either of those terms can mean a lot of things to different people and under different circumstances.
Well I guess Im intentionally vague; but simply, bullet (hollow point) performance has greatly improved since as few as maybe 10 years ago and certainly since the 90s and that was an improvement over the 80s

The very first 2-3 shots are without question the most important ones, and if you do not gain the advantage and put an end to your hostilities in the first few shots, then the odds of putting an end to them with your last few are slim and diminishing by seconds.

I can't believe the amount of extra ammo some people carry. I guess it makes them feel better prepared, which is fine. No one ever said, "Dang. I brought too much ammo."

Hmmmm? I wanna say yes but Im not convinced. Id say it depends on the situation. We all form opinions based on our experiences. Mine was more urban than rural and I lived through the single attacker with a steak knife to the "groups" (because we werent allowed to say GANG). By the end of my career the lone suspect was replaced by 3s, and 4s, and 5s.....

Sure two hits right at the start is great and may well end anything more; but when they scramble like roaches behind cover more just feels better and may be necessary
