Traded in my car yesterday.

Cowpies. They listen to edumacated marketing geniuses' that would know a average person if that individual walked up and bit them in the View attachment 108967
no...i am correct....JD Power & associates sent/sends out surveys to new car customers on thier recent purchase, asking what do you like or dislike about your new vehicle...

people would respond by saying, "they wish the car had this option or that option"

after a while the Big 3 auto makers starter to include, carpeting, AM/FM radios, power options like windows, door locks, and A/C...it took time, but they finally listened, as nearly ALL the japanese auto makers were shipping vehicles to the USA with many options for a lower price than what the Big 3 were producing.

The other day my wife told me that her vehicle was due for an oil change. We bought this vehicle brand new, a year ago. It's a Mazda CX-70 AWD. Great car, but with all the bells and whistles. I could probably count the fingers on one hand of all the times I have driven it. I went out to the car to get the milage off the odometer. I spent 10 minutes sitting in the car, pressing every button on the steering wheel, and still couldn't figure out how to get the mileage to display on the dash display! Got all mad and gave up. The wife asked me why I was so upset and I told her. She said all I had to do was ask her. She brought up an app on her phone and was able to "see" what the car mileage was, and how long she has until an oil change is needed. Pretty much just shook my head and rolled over and died.

Please don't go by when car says it needs changed. Waiting a year to change oil is an engine killer, I don't care what manufacturer says. Engine oil needs to be changed at least twice a year. How do I know this? Being in the car business for over 30 years. I change mine every 6 months period.

I don't. I go by mileage, since my wife puts on a 100 miles a day going to work and home. I just need to know the mileage so I can make the choice of when to do an oil change. Same with my truck. I make the determination of when I change the oil, not the on board computer notification.

With today’s synthetic oil, I go by what the car says, older cars with conventional oil, yea, I changed it at 3000, miles, my dad was a lifelong mechanic and said the oil filter is your main issue with oil changes, cheap filters are totally worthless, buy a good name brand and also don’t buy the cheapest name brand, spend extra and get the better one and your engine will reward you with many trouble free miles.

I always go with quality full synthetic oil and quality filters.

The only good news I’ve heard is that the president of VW says they are going back to knobs and switches rather than everything being “touch screen”
If that happens, I may just buy my first VW! I didn't use half of the goodies available on my 2018 Subaru, and now there are even more that will go unused.
IMO, the best thing modern vehicles offer is improved safety. Today, a 25mph head-on collision isn't fatal like it could have been in the 1950s. My mother lost all of her upper front teeth as a teen in the 50s in a low-speed front end collision. No seat belts, and her face hit the metal dash.

Congrats. You will find the Slowburu (sorry, I am a jerk. Thought you knew) to actually be a pretty good car. My old man bought one, and if you can get that guy to open his wallet you KNOW it is a safe bet. I love the old cars, but have to admit...new cars are faster, corner better, are more reliable and have more features that we never dreamed of back in the day. My Honda Civic Si six speed limited slip manual can cut a 6.1 second 0-60 and a 14.6 Quarter Mile with the stereo blaring and A/C on. My 1962 Corvette with the Wonderbar AM radio could only dream of those numbers. (tires you know) However, the Beach Boys sound better on AM and I like the time when cars looked different. If everything is designed in a wind tunnel, well, dang, who knew they would all look alike? You want to talk real cars? Jeep CJ-5 with the "I dare you" short wheelbase. Gorilla Costume Optional, but highly recommended.

Seriously, you have chosen wisely.

Haha! Well, I'm slow at my age, so its a great match! Yeah, the HP on the new sporty cars is crazy high. The "muscle cars" of the 60's are turtles in comparison. And I thought my '67 Chevelle SS was quick? It wouldn't hold a candle to a modern high performance car, but the modern car, IMO, can't compare with the style.

BTW, Love that ZebraJeep! I had a '42 Willys with a hardtop when I was 15 years old. Blazed trails through the woods with it. A rancher neighbor sold it to me for a few hundred bucks. It was my first vehicle. Had a ball with it.

this is true about oil filters. many manufactures leave out the pressure check ball..many others use a paper that wouldn't qualify as a filtering media.

stick with the brand names....any store brand i'd at least do a deep search to see who makes the filter for that store brand...

as a former wrencher, i too would tell the customers to come it at 3,000 miles.

yes also true all synthetics today are good for up to 10,000 or 1 years worth of driving.

however, those short trips can be a killer as mentioned earlier, as the moisture in the oil (condensation) does not get burned off with longer trips.

True. Harley guys that used it had leaks on top of their leaks. But when I switched back, problem solved. The "problem" was not the Mobil One, it was the Harley acceptable clearance!

Waaaaay too much electronics. When I bought my last Jeep, I realized that they were marketing them to women. Who ever heard of a Jeep with electric windows?
Same with Vettes. My 50s versions were sports cars. When I had a 78, they had gone to Hell. Never bought a later model. Too much “electric” this and that.

The last car I "Loved" was my 1964 Ford two door yellow, with black interior and a 390 "Police Interceptor" engine. I gave it to my Sister when I got orders for Viet Nam and she drive it for many years. Now I buy Toyota Rave 4's. Great cars with excellent gas mileage and all the comforts but no "soul". I was just informed that I would likely pay around $12,000 more for a new model, mines a 2019, than I did in 2020.
