Hi Joe,
I currently own a Springfield 9mm which I really like, but feel I need to start a nice selection of useful guns. I'm not sure if I should get another handgun or rifle or shotgun. I have a multiple purpose for weapon ownership--1) home protection; 2) sporting enjoyment, and; 3) pissing off our commie governor here in Virginia. I need advice on the first two which will suffice in fulfilling #3. Recommendations ladies and gentlemen? Thanks! Joe
Welcome to the forum from the Wild Wild Upper Midwest. Thanks for joining us. Which Springfield 9mm do you have? It's good to have a plan when putting together an armory.
I've been debating my next purchse as well. I've been building what I call a "one of each" collection. It's not "one of everything", just a sample of different platforms, calibers, barrel lengths, etc, for different purposes, to scratch different iches. My main focus is self-defense but I enjoy all my range toys and hope to get involved with some local, light competition. I've been thinking about a local steel challenge or action pistol.
I started my "one of each" collection concentrated on self-defense, focused on concealed carry. I now have a few "compact" pistols with 4" barrels that I can conceal really well. For long guns, I also wanted an AR and a shotgun. I've added those. Then I won an AK in a raffle at my range. I thought a lever rifle would be fun. I bought a .22 Henry and liked it so much that I added a .357 magnum. Levers are just fun to shoot.
Then I sort of got into 1911 pistols. I have a couple in .45, including
one Sig, and
one in 9mm.
Now I'm thinking I want one in 10mm. (I don't have a 10mm in my "one of each" collection yet.) For future competition, I've added a few longer barrels, XDM Elite Precision (5.25") and a Glock 17L (6"). I wanted to have just
one Glock in my collection. I have
one S&W revolver (6") also in .357 magnum,
one .22 revolver,
one HK in 9mm, several XD models including
one .45 Mod2 tactical (5"),
one Taurus .22 tactical for plinking fun,
one Ruger Mark IV for target shooting. I like plinking with .22LR. Oh yeah, I have
one Derringer and
one cap'n'ball black powder pistol.
I am a self-professed Springfield fanboy, my newest purchases being a couple of Echelon models. I wanted one comp'd pistol so I got the 4.5F Comp, and for a threaded barrel I got the 5.28" Threaded Barrel model of the Echelon.
My collection is fairly small compared to a lot of the members around here, but I have to strike a balance. I consider purpose, budget, convenience, usefulness, etc, when deciding on a firearm purchase. I really don't think I'll have to add too many more to my "one of each" collection. If you talk to Mrs. BassCliff I'm sure she'd tell you I have too many already.
All that to say, just make a list of what you want. Consider all the reasons why you want them. Prioritize as necessary. Have fun while you're training, collecting, and practicing.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
