Was the M1 Garand En-Bloc Clip a Terrible Idea?

Aside from combat use, the old Garand in 30-06, some were modified to fire the 7.62mm nato, made a pretty good target rifle.

BHSS Hi-Power University Session 98: Springfield SA-35 Hi-Power Extractor Hole Illusion

Fired a commercial BHP with Canadian WW2 9mm surplus ammunition. At one point, the strip of metal immediately below the ejection port cracked. Had it welded and having run a couple thousand lead bullet hand loads through the repaired pistol, had no problems. I presume the Canadian surplus...

Was the M1 Garand En-Bloc Clip a Terrible Idea?

Regarding the Garand Rifle. I fired one in competition for 6 plus years, about 12,000 rounds, mostly hand loads. As to the “problems” of it’s 8 round capacity, I wonder as to whether the things could have been made to take BAR magazines? Regarding supposed problems with a removable 20 magazine...

What would the US Founding Fathers think about 18-year-olds being able to purchase military weapons?

They would not have been concerned about or with 18year olds being armed.

Was the M1 Garand En-Bloc Clip a Terrible Idea?

Regarding the “comfort” is shooting the Garand. The gas operation certainly soaked up a lot of the recoil, however the rifle’s 10 pound weight and stock design helped too.

Was the M1 Garand En-Bloc Clip a Terrible Idea?

Was never in the military, which was likely fortunate for all concerned. In any case, I shot National Match Course type competition for many years, first with a personally owned Garand which I I put around 12,000 rounds through, mostly hand loads, later on going to bolt action rifles Model 70...

    Springfield Arms 10mm

Re the 1911 pistol and ammunition capacity, correct me if I’m in error, the originals were 7 round magazines, 8 round magazines came later, and I have a few single stack 10 round magazines. They protrude out the bottom end of course. Should those be insufficient, double stack models are...

    met an ATF agent today

No doubt, some ATF people are regular types, I knew one, while regarding others, the less said the better, presuming one wants to stay inside the bounds of polite conversation. ATF “management” might be another story.

Should You Reload Your Own Ammo?

BobM: If I may, I submit that you overstate the dangers of reloading small arms ammunition. Over many years, I’ve reloaded shot shells, rifle and hand gun ammunition for competition use, without problems. I do not cast my own bullets, using the output of quality casters. Regarding the hazard of...

Should You Reload Your Own Ammo?

No reason not to, though rising component prices and supply problems are a consideration. Factory ammunition has gone up too, and availability is dicey.

First Look: Springfield Armory SA-35 9mm

My letter seems to have vanished. So be it. As for the quoted price, impressive to say the least. As a prospective buyer, you can always pass though.

First Look: Springfield Armory SA-35 9mm

On the Browning HiPower, mine is a T series, commercial piece, purchased in 1965, as I recall. Removed the magazine safety, which did improve trigger feel. My Browning is not the most accurate 9MM pistol I’ve ever come across, but then it was essentially a Service Pistol, not a target model. It...

    Was John Moses Browning Overrated?

Pedersen might well have been the equal of Browning or very close thereto. Her didn't make it commercially, as obviously Browning did. Also, his Springfield conversion never cut it's teeth in battle. Different story with Browning's machineguns, as well as the commercial success of his designs...
