First Look: Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm

I think it was this comment that threw me off: It makes it sound like GI is more than the 2-piece, but not exorbitant (i.e. not a LOT more). I have a 2-piece in my 2011 and it's a PITA. Needing a tool (ANY tool) to break it down just kinda sucks. If I ever get it back from my gunsmith...

How is a two piece guide rod cheaper than a GI setup?

I did see that. That sucks. The only other place I ever shot up there was the NRA range and at my gunsmith's house, out in Marshall. Fortunately for you, the NRA range is not THAT much more of a drive from Haymarket than going to Elite.

LOL! I moved down here from Manassas 2 years ago. If you're coming down and want to meet, let me know!

I would love to try a Prodigy! And let you try any of my inventory as well. I'm in Lexington (SC). If you're nearby and want to meet up at PSA or Panteao or anywhere else nearby, drop me a PM!

Others don't have creep. Yours does. My Rivals have no creep. My Canik Mete MC9 definitely does have a little creep. That is the nature of mass-produced pistols. Yours and the next guy's won't necessarily be identical. Maybe the difference is your discernment versus another's persons. Or...

My Dan Wesson Guardian trigger has no creep. My two Tisas 1911s triggers have no creep. My Rock Island double stack 1911 trigger has no creep (and is somewhere around 3 - 3.5# - I can't remember exactly now). My Canik Rivals triggers have no creep (and are both at 3.0# or just slightly under)...

What I shipped my Tisas pistols, it was at an actual FedEx office inside a Walmart. They did not ask what was in the package.

I sent two pistols back to Tisas a couple of weeks ago. FedEx. I just walked in handed them the box with a mailing label already on it. They scanned it, handed me a receipt, and I was on my way.

Man! Dan Wesson really shot themselves in the foot. They announced the DWX, which is basically a 2011 using CZ mags, but then got screwed by COVID and couldn't get it to market for an extra 2 years. That gave everyon else the good idea and time to catch up, and now Oracle is making a 2011 that...

If you had said "the Prodigy is an unmatched value among the ones you are considering", I would have had no occasion to respond. But, you did not. You made a statement only qualified by "in the 2011 offerings". As the Prodigy itself is technically not a 2011, I applied the more liberal...

Unmatched value? Among double stack 1911s, the Rock Island Tac Ultra FS HC is a FAR better value. And it has been around for almost 10 years now. If it had any teething pains, they are years in the past. My personal sample size is only 1, but my Rock has been flawless so far.

Steel frame with a full length rail and a 5" barrel. 43 ounce weight, empty. Probably not going to find a 10mm that is much easier on your wrist...

Ummm... just FYI. These have been around for a while. I have the 9mm version. Same MSRP. Street price on mine was $790. Only 100 (200?) rounds or so through it so far, but it has been perfect. Very slick action. Very nice trigger other than being 5# (and which I have now adjusted myself down to...

Apologies. It just seemed like the Prodigy stuff kinda petered out. I mean, what else is there to say about the Prodigy other than comparing it to other similar guns (i.e. high capacity, full size 9mms)?
