    THE EDC KNIFE

Nice knife. I train/teach Escrima(Filipino Martial Arts) and these 3 knives are some of the ones I train with. I also have a couple of Machetes. Good knives have gotten expensive. A pawn shop near my house sometimes gets some decent knives and gives me a pretty good discount...:) All of the...

    slide racker plate

VP9's are nice firearms. I've handled a few and was impressed, they're just a little too bulky for me. But they are nice...:)

    slide racker plate

Nice firearm. I had a S&W EZ(9mm) and though the slide was easy to rack, I never liked the grip safety or overall feel of the firearm, so I got rid of it. I recently acquired a Glock 19 Gen 5. I like the front slide serrations. The Glock is not hard for me to rack the slide on(I'll be 65 in...

This Is Why Your CCW Won’t Save You

I'm a 4th degree black belt in Ed Parker Kenpo Karate(got it in 2005 and never tested for any more rank, though I could have). Some of my Kenpo Hispanic students got into BJJ and got their black belts from the Machado brothers in the Dallas area. When I started reading Kenpo Ed Parker's writings...

Another Story in The Big City

I think sometimes people/students with little training think they're better than they really are at executing a technique, and either wind up getting hurt or hurting someone. In the "old days" some instructors taught that it was easier to put a choke hold on someone who had been hit(kicked or...

This Is Why Your CCW Won’t Save You

Lots of good and interesting responses to this article. I think the concept of "tools"(verbal judo, empty hand self-defense, knives, firearms, etc.) is a good one. It's been my experience that some concealed carry people over-estimate their abilities to deploy their firearm if needed, and...

Another Story in The Big City

I'd like to have more information before I'd see if the guy was justified in putting on the choke hold. Many years ago I put a choke hold on guy at the hospital I worked at as an EMT. I got called up to the mental ward part of the hospital and witnessed a 250+ guy slam an elderly lady against...

    Oh Boy.....Newbie on the range!

When I've taught/teach women's self-defense classes I always offer to educate any of the participants on firearm safety. I also explain the advantages/disadvantages of pepper spray and other weapons. Once a person understands firearm safety and that it's extremely important to follow the same...

    This mornings dog walk

I carry a S&W 638 loaded with a couple of rounds of snake shot and 3 rounds of hollow points for snakes and aggressive dogs(There's a bunch of them down here by the Mexican border. They're not too bad in the small towns but can be bad when you're traveling on some of the rural highways.). Back...

    New 1911

I owned a Ruger SR1911 Commander for a couple of years and it was reliable and accurate. I've owned several 1911s over the years and the Ruger was one of the best because of the lower cost and quality. I'm a big fan of Ruger products. I have a New Model Ruger Vaquero that I don't ever plan...

    Burglars dressed as DoorDash drivers

In my small town(population around 12,000). I know most of the Door Dash drivers. I sometimes use them but meet them at my front fence(about 10 yards from my front door). I do it more to feed the local economy, than for the convenience. I don't think I'd use Door Dash in a bigger city. I'd go...

I'm a man of my word

That's a mighty fine looking firearm. It's almost as good looking as my Beretta APX....:) All joking aside, as a former Marine I have a sweet spot for 1911s...nice firearm sir...:)

Fools mistakenly shooting innocents will backlash on us

Good points sir. And lots of good points made by others contributing to this discussion. I'm a martial arts instructor who has been handling/carrying/shooting firearms since I was a Marine back in the late 1970's. A firearm is a tool in the self-defense plan, not the only tool. I not only...

Frying pan into the fire and other contemplations aka time for a cool down

Yall say mean things about Hi Points? I guess I better take the 40 caliber Hi Point Carbine off of layaway and get a Sig P320 and hope it doesn't kill me...:)

Gunfight in the Dark: Would You Survive?

Good article. I worked security and bouncer work at night for many years. I've had weapons pulled on me in a parking lot. I've dealt with a group of drunk people not wanting to leave, etc, etc. I have done a lot of martial arts training with and against weapons. Escrima/Arnis specializes in...

Gunfight in the Dark: Would You Survive?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G75P1SC/ref=asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I have had this flashlight for a few months. It uses either AA or CR123A batteries. I ordered a 6 pack of Duracell CR123A batteries from Amazon. I prefer the light with the CR123As but it's nice to be able to use AA...

    Do you wear gloves?

I keep gloves around and sometimes wear them. I haven't worn gloves while shooting in a long time. Back when I was doing bouncer work(late 70's until about 2000) I used to get my fingers mangled up while throwing people out or taking them to the ground. Now if I think my hands might get damaged...

    Wheel guns

My favorite revolver. New Model Ruger Vaquero, 7.5 inch barrel in 45 Colt...:) When I was young my dad and I watched Gunsmoke. This revolver fits my hand like it was made for it. Even with a 7.5 inch barrel it feels balanced...:)

    Wheel guns

I've owned different snub nosed revolvers over the years(current one is a S&W 638 and looking at Taurus 605 Poly Protector). I've never felt under-armed when carrying a small revolver.
