    Got My First Shotgun

Years ago I used to shoot skeet with a former Remington Engineer. He had the prettiest stock I had ever seen on a Remington 1100 and commented on it. He referred to it as "E Grade Wood". I was not familiar with the term and he explained it was E for Employee. When an Employee wanted a particular...

Air Force Dude Makes the Efficiency Case to DOGE for the Warthog

To me, everything that supports the boots on the ground is a Yes in terms of funding. Warthog or older gunships are the right answer when our troops are in trouble. This should not even be an issue in terms of funding. It the troops say they want it, I am ALL IN!

PS- This thread qualifies as my "learned something today" goal. Never knew the back story of the Springfield.

What If the M16 Rifle Never Existed?

Beltfed you were a visionary. Why didn't you come up to me at the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot and shake me until I understood?

What If the M16 Rifle Never Existed?

Thanks. As a self proclaimed "Professional Small Boy" I now spend my days doing the things I dreamed about when working 6-7 days a week!

    Croatian XD .357 Sig

No replacement parts yet, outside of a recoil spring since I got it used and didn't know the round count. It appeared low, one of the advantages to high ammo costs! Gunbroker has them at $1415 which is oddly specific. I got mine for less as they were still in production at that time. I can't...

    Got My First Shotgun

I affectionately refer to my Winchester 1897 as the "Wreck of an old 97". It belonged to Floyd Wine, a great gunsmith that worked for Brownells. After he passed via an unexpected heart attack, I sadly bought the 97 and two Ruger .357 Vaqueros from his widow. With a 20 or so inch barrel it is...

What If the M16 Rifle Never Existed?

Don't remind me! They were $3,500 when I was looking at them and dismissed them as too expensive. Worst of all, I could have afforded it!!!! My biggest financial blunder....well, no, getting married the first time was that. But this is a close second!

What If the M16 Rifle Never Existed?

CCJ, yes that is my actual garage. The Cobra was my dream car as a kid. I bought a 1971 MG Midget for $275 when I was 16 and my father taught me to work on cars by completely restoring it. Good times we talk about even today. Anyway, I was car centric from then on, always trading up, restoring...

    Got My First Shotgun

As usual, blanket statements are rarely accurate. I should have said "as fast" or maybe even "almost as fast". I stand corrected. The 870 is a classic workhorse and there is a ton of aftermarket support. But my favorite pump shotgun is the Winchester Model 12. It is as smooth as oiled ball...

    Croatian XD .357 Sig

With Buffalo Bore loads that are the real deal. From their website: Item 25A utilizes the 125gr. Jacketed Hollow Point bullet. It is designed to open radically and penetrate roughly 12 to 14 inches in tissue. Note my velocities from my real world pistol, (not a test barrel) below. a. Sig. Mod...

    Croatian XD .357 Sig

I am with TexasForLife. The .357 Sig is one of my favorites, as an old wheelgunner that grew up with the 125 grain .357 Magnum "Magic Bullet". I was wooed to the semi automatic side with promises of more ammo and faster reloads, but in my heart I knew I was trading off the best defence...

    Bullitt today at 5:45 PM

McQueen was always mindful of his roots. I read yesterday that he built a swimming pool for underprivileged kids as a "Thank You" to the city for letting him film there. McQueen spent some time with his aunt and uncle here in Slater Missouri, so every year they have "Steve McQueen Days" with a...

Got me there KillerFord. Before I was married and still swimming in the dating pool I had a rule never to date a girl that had let herself go like I had! That and never date a woman old enough to be my wife.

    Got My First Shotgun

And Kir you have retained the shotgun stock, which I consider critical to rapid target acquisition and elimination. So many stray the path to the "tactical" pistol grip. Which I admit freely is better when covering suspects. But frankly a shotgun is at its core is a reactive weapon...see the...

What If the M16 Rifle Never Existed?

Hans, I share your regret. The first machine gun I ever fired was a Columbia Police Department STAR team gun, and I fell in love. I could do remarkable things with that gun by the second magazine. However, in the late 80's I thought the price was too steep. So I didn't buy one, despite a...
