Ayoob: Is .45 Still Better Than 9mm?

I am not sure how to respond. Mas has a long history of writing and has access to police reports on Department shootings. I trust his perspective.

New Knife Reveals at the 2025 Blade Show

Now before you dismiss this as the blade equivalent to the hillbilly comic oversize cigar this Cold Steel actually fits in a pocket...true, it is heavy, but if one is expecting a blade encounter....

What are you doing right now??

Time with Cops is always time well spent. I gladly pick up the check...more laughs per dollar spent than anything else!

What are you doing right now??

Old man turns 86 this year...took him fishing!

    Have You Cleared Your House?

Nope. That is why my tax money pays Cops. No kids, so my wife and I fort up if the alarm goes off at two in the morning. I have a house key that will open all the doors on a glow stick that I throw out the window for the Cops. That way they can enter without alerting the bad guys. If they come...

Smith & Wesson Model 19 Combat Magnum: A .357 Classic Returns

Good sights, good trigger (usually). The target grips are all wrong, flaring downward as the fingers get shorter they get wider. But with a good set of grips, this is the sidearm most people shoot best!

Review: Stan Chen Customized 1911 EMP

Agree about the tragedy of evidence firearms. But I am willing to take that risk. I know in my heart I will never need a defensive sidearm. I am older and wiser...I do not insert myself into situations that require a sidearm to resolve. But if I am forced into that scenario, I want the firearm...

A different 1911 build Travis Strahan AccuLock

Well, that will insure a consistent lock up for sure. I like it, if only because it is a new innovation on an proven platform. Having said that, I am content to be stuck in the past. Bob Chow customized Combat Commander. What more could a boy want?

Smith & Wesson Model 19 Combat Magnum: A .357 Classic Returns

The four inch 19 usually ends up as the winner in the ongoing campfire debate "If you could only have one handgun". Used as intended, a .38 Special with the ability to shoot .357 Magnum loads occasionally, it would be my choice. A round butt helps for concealment. I never could warm up to the...

    Memories!

You kidding me? When I was 17 I was driving a $275 MG that I brought back from the dead. If you put all the push starts back to back I would have ended up in Pittsburg!

    why oh why

Capacity sells. But frankly history proves it is about time not capacity. In a gunfight, time is the key. A fatal shot delivered promptly is the key, not how many rounds in the mag. I spent decades worshipping at the alter of capacity, but as the timeclock proved I was better and faster with a...

    You don't hate Massachusetts enough

Well, frankly no. Why. Because guys on this forum need to understand how different life is in other places, and how they need to make sure their homes don't become those places. Because they will if we don't vote. Just saying

You HAVE to get rid of a gun in your collection...

And yes, I know my answer drifted into the campfire staple "If you could only have one handgun" question! But the Les Baer 1911 .45 acp is target ready or suitable for everyday carry or nightstand duty to protect hearth and home. Add a Marvel Conversion kit to .22 rimfire and you open up more...

You HAVE to get rid of a gun in your collection...

Alright Hans, I will bite. What is wrong with the Les Baer? Why would you get rid of it? What model is it? I have a real fondness for them...I have one and it would be the last gun I would sell if times got hard.

Ayoob: Is .45 Still Better Than 9mm?

Well, no offense intended. I was offering my perception of the man, based on my decades of professional experience and personal albeit casual conversations with the man. I am sorry if I hurt your feelings. But I remain steadfast that he is the most significant writer of our era. Looking forward...

Ayoob: Is .45 Still Better Than 9mm?

Fair enough. But I think you are leaving a lot of Knowledge on the table. I grew up in what sounds like the same era as you did. As a small kid that was listening to the Columbia Conference...I learned to listen.

Ayoob: Is .45 Still Better Than 9mm?

Well, he is a well connected writer and has been accepted as an acknowledged expert in court as a witness. He grew up around guns and has served for a LONG time as a Peace Officer. What other author pray tell meets your qualifications as a man worth reading?!?

Ayoob: Is .45 Still Better Than 9mm?

Gents, we grew up in the early days of bullet development. There is no question in my mind that the 9mm with a modern bullet design is WAY beyond the days when Col Cooper condemned it. Having said that, I still believe in the .45 ACP because it does not count on bullet design...even in...

Ayoob: Is .45 Still Better Than 9mm?

Ayoob is, dare I say it, a National Treasure. He asks a lot of the hard questions from a perspective that can not be ignored. And he has police contacts that enable him to explore actual case histories. He speaks the truth. I have followed him since he was championing the 41 Magnum in the early...
