    Bring Back Mental Institutions

We just finished mental health refresher training at our school. Per the instructor only 4% of those committing criminal violent acts have mental health issues. Yet, $$$ and training for mental health are saturating our institutions, not to mention influencing public policy. I said before...

Armed and Armored: Jeeps with Teeth

Since the 37mm on the jeep didn't fare too well, the TD Board still wanted a mobile AT gun and this is how the M8 armored car got its start. Being outclassed very quickly, it transitioned to the recon role where it performed well if the terrain was not too rugged.

On this day... Strips was released...

Agree, just OK. Am pretty familiar with the production. One myth is that the comedy genius, Bill Murray, developed all of the specialized drill routines. Sorry, this was largely the drill sergeants themselves who did that. Murray frequently wandered off somewhere for days then returned from...

    Dang that's a long time

According to the link provided in the article, I don't see how O2 saturation into the blood plasma contributes that much to holding his breath for extended periods. The report at the link states blood plasma can hold 2% O2 versus 98% in the hemoglobin of the red blood cells. In my mind...

Panzer IV Tank: Workhorse of the Wehrmacht

I'd rather have a Mark IV or an M4 than a T-34. Sloppy production QC, no separate fighting compartment, hard to bail from, ammo QC issues, and the list goes on. The quantity is its own quality doesn't really apply to the T-34 as most think IMO.

Panzer IV Tank: Workhorse of the Wehrmacht

It can be argued the Pz III, though eventually far outclassed by the allies was the most reliable and effective tanks for its day. I've posted this before, but the video shows a Panzer Brigade surrendering in Norway. It's a mixed unit of PZ IIILs for the anti-armor role with long 50mm and...

Panzer IV Tank: Workhorse of the Wehrmacht

My wife's German mom and grandma were fleeing the approach of the allies at the very end of WWII. Outside of Stuttgart enroute to the Black Forest, grandma was trying to flag down any truck or car to go back and get some of their possessions from the house. The only one who stopped was a Mark...

    American Tanks on D-Day’s Beaches

Utah Beach: DD tanks 80 percent success rate. Omaha Beach: despite what the movies show, over 60 percent success rate. Amtracs and Amtanks one inch frontal armor at most. Shermans 3.7 inches frontal armor taking into account 57 degree angle. Amtanks: 75mm low velocity howitzer. Sherman: 75...

Nuclear spending rises across the world

As usual not enough info. I strongly suspect US expenditures to be a lot of deferred maintenance. The only way to make sure is query Pantex and STRATCOM but they ain't talking. As far as the UK goes its sole nuclear deterrence resides in four SSBNs which carry US Trident missiles. As OP says...

ATF Seeks to Criminalize ‘Pinned and Welded' Muzzle Devices

FYI: This report is from June 4 citing an earlier report from May 8th. https://gunsamerica.com/digest/atf-agent-rewrites-rules-pin-weld/ I have searched and found nothing more recent about this.

    National Purple Heart Day

National Purple Heart Day remembers the history of the Purple Heart award along with the sacrifice those who have earned the award have made for our freedoms. Purple Heart Day is on August 7th. This is the date in 1782, when the precursor to the award was first awarded by George Washington...

shooter in custody at Fort Stewart

An Army Sergeant with a beard like that? How long has he been AWOL? Or is he pulling the old pseudo-folliculitis excuse?

Army swaps iconic Humvee for a faster, cheaper vehicle

Both my last rides in a jeep and a goat was in 1979. The 80s really were a watershed for new and improved gear in so many ways.

Army swaps iconic Humvee for a faster, cheaper vehicle

Apparently, the HUMVEE's days are numbered. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/08/02/armys-replacement-for-humvee-infantry-squad-vehicle/85421688007/?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-us Even though this is in the multi-colored fishwrap, I'll accept it at face value for discussion...

    OMG they are coming

Living tissue does not become radioactive despite being affected by it. An exception might be, repeat might be bone tissue. IOW no glow in the dark people walking around like in the movies. I would agree with part of the anti-nuke crowd's complaint that there is not enough information on...

    WWIII…….

Are they nuclear powered SSNs or SSGNs or SSBNs. Excluding the SSBNs, do the SSNs or SSGNs have nuclear weapons? Not enough info from the article. BTW, the last time Putin rattled the (tactical) nuclear saber when Biden was in office, ABC news was quick to do a piece aboard a SSBN with...

    More firepower for the Abrams

The first article on manufacturing of drones is interesting because it conjures up a similar operation in Japan during WWII. Cottage arms industries allowed Japan to disperse its arms industry and bring together components for final assembly. It's also interesting that the article itself...
