9 mm Carry Guns Yesterday and Today

For those of you that forgot, my Glock 19/26 was a Glock 19 fitted with a Suarez Combat Systems Slide back before factory milling for optics were available that I later cut down to Glock 26 butt dimensions. Yes, I used a band saw and cleaned it up with a file.

9 mm Carry Guns Yesterday and Today

I have to admit, the Sig won me over from my Trijicon Glock 19/26 because of its size, trigger and sweep down to fire manual safety just like my beloved 1911. I was happy with my red dots until on of my pot stirring range buddies showed up with a green dot. Jerk. You know how much that cost me...

Deported back to the U.S. because of a .25 Auto.

During the twenty years between my First and my Final Marriage I was without adult supervision. In retrospect, it was determined that I was in fact channeling the Spirit of Dean Martin during that entire time, hence the acquisition of a smoking jacket. It is mostly a blur.

45 auto with 16 inch barrel

Thompsons had ten inch barrels as I recall and they didn't seem to suffer any damage to their reputation as a stopper. Perhaps that is still in the sweet spot...five to ten inch barrels allow for complete gunpowder burning without being long enough to result in frictional losses?

Deported back to the U.S. because of a .25 Auto.

A smoking jacket is traditionally a velvet or other dense material overcoat that one wears around the house when the gentlemen gather in the Library to smoke cigars, drink brandy and discuss world affairs/business. The idea is that the smoking jacket protects your evening clothes from the smoke...

45 auto with 16 inch barrel

You might have to be a handloader to find out. Today's 45 ACP rounds are running powders that are designed for shorter handgun barrels. Sometimes longer barrels actually have lower velocity due to the powder being completely burned but the bullet is still in the barrel and velocity suffers due...

9 mm Carry Guns Yesterday and Today

ECS686, that is one of the most comfortable pistols ever...the single stack 39. I wish I had one of those too...I have shot friends 39's and they have all been reliable and easy shooting. As for capacity, a fella typically runs out of time before he runs out of bullets.

9 mm Carry Guns Yesterday and Today

I would like to have a Hi-Power in 40, but so far have not landed one. It is my understanding that they went to the cast frame for the increased strength due to the higher pressures of the .40 cal. The Browning Hi-Power will fit in most 1911 holsters, like this Milt Sparks for the 1911.

Deported back to the U.S. because of a .25 Auto.

I concur. The Smoking Jacket was a leftover from my bachelor days when Cigars and Brandy frequently followed dinner. As my wife says she would rather kiss a skunk than a smoker, I have given up tobacco.

OK, compared to a 1911 then. I thought I had a picture with the Hi-Power but since they are about the size of a 1911 you get the idea.

9 mm Carry Guns Yesterday and Today

The Browning Hi-Power was a twelve round 9 mm (always download one for maximum reliability) when I carried a 9 in those olden days when I felt I needed more rounds than a .45 1911. (looking at you St. Louis) Now the Hellcat or Sig P365 XL offers a 13 round 9mm with Fun Size dimensions. Progress!

Should You Display Your Collectible Firearms?

I daydream about my next house, which will be our "Forever Home". All one level, handicapped accessible, four wheeler from garage to the mailbox, everything. And, which spoils the all one level idea, an actual Man Cave. Concrete room with a bank vault door, surrounded on 3 sides by dirt and...
