    Battle of the Defensive Shotguns

I have to say, knowing full well it will keep me from being one of the cool kids, but I hate a pistol grip on a shotgun. I lose the fast handling that the shotgun is known for. A well used Winchester Model 12 is my bedside iron, but my downstairs home defense gun is an equally well used...

    Happy Birthday ECS686

Yes happy birthday! Always fun when it lands on a weekend!

    J Frame? Well....

That is old school, from the Colt shroud to the rubber bands! Outstanding.

What are you doing right now??

Got a haircut since I am going to visit my folks this weekend. My old man would not let me hear the end of it if I showed up at their house "Looking like a Hippie". Because if your hair is not high and tight, you are by definition a Hippie.

    The Last 1911

I will have to update my photo of my "Keeper" 1911s. Formerly it was the Less Baer and a Springfield with a Loaded stainless steel lower and a Mil Spec upper. (because of the Loaded models forward cocking serrations) Going forward, it will be the Baer and the new Colt.

Should Your CCW Be Big, Small, or Neither?

And carry an extra magazine if you carry a semi automatic. Generally, a reload is the fastest way to clear a stoppage. Drop the mag, work the slide vigorously and reload. If the stoppage is not cleared by that, you probably won't have time to clear it at all.

Should Your CCW Be Big, Small, or Neither?

Well, for sure carry something! At the very least I have a J frame S&W or a vintage Colt Cobra in my pocket. I carried a full size 1911 for decades and shoot it better than anything. But now that I am retired, I don't carry the big iron anymore all day. So when I go to town, it is not a burden...

    J Frame? Well....

Of course, if you need the short barrel of the two inch J Frame and can afford just a wee bit more bulk, an old style Colt is your answer. Wide sights on the pre-1973 models in Detective Special (all steel) Cobra (alloy frame) and Agent (alloy frame, shorter grip) The best pocket carry revolvers...

    The Last 1911

High Point? No, I do not own a boat. As such, I have no need for an anchor along the massive size and weight of a Hy-Point.

It's Official, A Jeopardy Clue Just Listed Die Hard As A Christmas Movie

Thank you! Now perhaps my wife will concede it is in fact a Christmas Movie. As is Rambo, if you notice in the background at the Police Station there are Christmas decorations! Just saying. Jimmy Stewart is not the only bad*** in Christmas Movies! (Despite being a movie star, he enlisted in...

What are you doing right now??

Bella, a lot of your Forum Family are facing the same situation. Nothing I am dreading more. But it is reward at the end of a lifetime of toil, troubles, joy, heartbreak and LOVE. The joy and the Love make it all worthwhile. He is in a better place now, smiling down at you and happy you made it...

For The Love Of The Commander

Well, if we are turning this into a picture thread, when weight is an issue the full size 1911 gives way to this Smith and Wesson Scandium model on my belt in an inside the waistband holster by Brommeland. As I have posted before, Bill Laughridge of Cylinder and Slide fitted an Ed Brown Barrel...

    J Frame? Well....

It was embarrassing to have that picture up showing my neglect to my Interweb compadres, but it was an important reminder to the community that rust, like politicians, never sleeps during its sworn quest of destroying all firearms!

    J Frame? Well....

Agreed. Despite my preference for the three inch BBL for its ballistic advantage and vastly better sights, if I could only have one J Frame it would be the ugliest sidearm I own, the Bodyguard pictured above. It is the gun I carry when I cannot carry a gun.

    J Frame? Well....

And I know most defensive applications require smooth double action work, but I am comforted by the fact I do have the ability to shoot single action if I had to.

    The Last 1911

Trader, it was literally a lifetimes "work" the collection. You have to remember, I have only been married 13 years. That was a LONG stretch there where I had no adult supervision. I live modestly, a reflection on my parents. I traveled a lot for the company, so I never took vacations. Company...

    The Last 1911

Well gents, after a lifetime of collecting and shooting I have to admit to myself I am slowing down. When Biden got elected we knew he was going to drive the economy into the ditch, and getting out of debt was our best chance at insulating ourselves. When we got married, my wife and I sold our...

For The Love Of The Commander

I have tried the Commander. I would certainly not feel handicapped with a Commander over a Government Model. But for me the full size points better, probably due to more practice. What I am saying is, be sure and try both! And if you shoot a striker fired pistol well, you owe it to yourself to...

    NGD/Range Day - SA 1911 TRP CC .45 (AOS) - 9 Dec 25

Good review and good shooting! I latched on to some painters safety glasses at the Duluth Store. They are magnifying cheaters, but with the magnifying lens at the TOP of the lens. So when your head is locked down, your sights are clear like you are 20 years old again. I heartily recommend them...

    J Frame? Well....

Just noticed the rust on the grip screw of the J-Frame. Diligence is required in maintaining all carry guns, they are exposed to a lot of sweat and humidity. Looks like today is a vault rust check day!
