    Seven vs Eight-Why it matters!

Another thing. Only use Wilson Rogers mags with the polymer follower in alloy framed 1911's. The metal followers peck at the frame/feed ramp and the polymer ones won't. Another plus on the Ed Brown 7 Rounders: I have never had one rattle when loaded. Seems like just about every magazine type...

    Seven vs Eight-Why it matters!

Reliability is the single most important factor in a defensive sidearm. The magazine is the most common failure point in a semi-auto pistol. I hear shooters complaining of the cost of magazines and using cheap-o mags in their $800 (or more) 1911. I will cheerfully use a 7 round mag over an 8. I...

Got my John Rourke on today

I would have to wear a parka or a full length pimp coat to hide a Milt Sparks Six Pack. Does not mean I don't want one however.

    Movies with English voice over

I suspected as much! Still, movies are for fun and that one would certainly push the Nostalgia button. If that is not worth a couple of my hours, don't know what is.

    A Tale of Two Calibers

I love the .44 Special because it trims the fat off the sidearm. One rarely needs the increased power of the .44 Magnum. So why not trim the barrel profile and lighten the platform when you really are shooting .44 Special loads thru your magnum? Or better yet from a carry standpoint, drop down...

    Movies with English voice over

Oh, and Pieter as a kid I remember going to see "The Wild Geese" the the theatre and really enjoyed it. I should find it and watch it with adult eyes now.

    Movies with English voice over

Find the movie "What's Up Tiger Lily?". Woody Allen, back in the 60's when he was funny, bought the rights to a bad Asian James Bond knock off movie and redubbed it. Some really funny bits in there, having changed the movie to be about the agents trying to secure the worlds best egg salad...

    Competition

I rather enjoy Pieter Coetzee's insights. But I have been accused of many of his same infractions on this Forum by Peasants. (come on, it is ok to joke)

    Seven vs Eight-Why it matters!

I know the eight round magazines for the 1911 have been the "standard" for ages. Originally, it was a seven round magazine, which served well in both war and peace. By the 80's people started fooling around with follower designs (looking at you Charlie Devel, wherever you are) to try and squeeze...

    Blanton's Bourbon

Back before I was married the second/final time 14 years ago, I had worked up a complicated formula involving a mans age, his girlfriends age, and the age of the Scotch he drank. Without showing my work (remember that from math class?) here is the gist of it: When you are young and just starting...

How is your 1911 set up?

The Springfield line offers so many choices, it makes it easy to buy "off the rack" with no changes needed. Good sights right from the factory...that is the main thing. But they hold such tight tolerances you can mix and match...I have a "Loaded" lower because of the features it offered, but...

    1911 9mm magazines

Mags have always been the weak point in the 1911 platform in 9 mm because of the shorter round. For decades I was in the "Nine Millimeter 1911? You mean a Browning Hi Power" camp. But then I shot a friends 9 mm 1911 and it was an eye opener. The 1911 trigger with a round very cheap to practice...

    Anyone carry TWO?

When you study gunfights, a surprising number of them result in wounds to hand, arm, and gun. People tend to focus on the threat, so this makes sense. Probably the fight is over if this happens, but lets explore the options. A right handed guy carrying a 1911 on the strong side inside the...

For you 1911 guys how many mags do you carry?

Haynes is spot on about the malfunction drill. I carry one spare mag for the 1911 for sure, and generally two. I carried a single spare when I carried the Glock 19 or Glock 26/19 in case of a malfunction. Not out of thinking I was going to need more rounds because of my low risk lifestyle.

And the hits just keep on coming for Ford.

Unless you can write it off on your business, a lease is just throwing money away. If you want a different/something "new" every couple of years, buy a low miles used car and trade it every couple of years. Will likely not have anything major go wrong that early in its life. But I cringe for...

How is your 1911 set up?

Pieter, Wilson Combat made the checkering strip held on by the grips. Not as aggressive as "proper" checkering, but better than nothing. Once you have a 1911 with checkering or stippling, it is hard to go back. Another vote for the arched mainspring housing, even though I started with a Gold...

    What’s a Roach Belly?

We called them Perch Belly Knives when I was a young man. Very handy blade design.

Major win in DC for 2nd Amendment

They swear an oath to protect the Constitution. If they write a law that is later found Unconstitutional, they should be stripped of their office, deigned the benefits and pension and be forever barred from holding office again. I suspect that would fix a lot of things right there.

And the hits just keep on coming for Ford.

Modern cars are too complicated. Small block Ford or Chevy, manual transmission. I have not received any recalls on my Chevy or Ford. Just saying.

    Kids today....

Which means anyone without grey hair. Anyway, you owe it to them to break out a Smith & Wesson K Frame and a box of 148 Grain Wadcutters at the range and let them see how easy it is to casually dot off groups their plastic hi-caps can't even manage in Hollywood. Life is good...and it is better...
