I've Had My Fill - Looking For Recommendations

I would go to Southern Idaho (Twin Falls, Jerome) if I had my druthers. If it wasn't for our little slice of heaven I would have left ???, TX several years ago. PS. Texas is not a Red state; maybe purple.

March 19, 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom

False premise. There were several reasons for going into Iraq with WMD just one of them. If he didn't possess them, how were 5000 Kurds gassed with Sarin nerve agent? It was an issue of accountability and they were never accounted for. I would accept the History Channel's version of events...

US, Israel launch attack on Iran as Trump announces 'major combat operations'

Yup, Abu Musa. Way back when the runway there was extended, and Chinese Styx missiles were emplaced. IN Coronado we planned and exercised Navy and Marine ops against this bugger. Nowadays we wouldn't have to invade, just take the thing out.

Jellicoe weeps and Nelson isn’t taking calls any more

Not sure what you mean. In the Gulf War we had the 7th Lancers deployed next door and a UK EW unit co-located with us on the Saudi-Iraqi border. The remainder of an Armored Division was with coalition on the attack. Their Navy I'm not sure about.

    rules on buying a Ferrari....

IIRC when the Corvette C7s and C8s came out the agreement with the dealerships was that they couldn't sell these for over $65K (or thereabouts). I think there was a rule about flipping but I'm not sure about that. Anyway, used to work with a man who owned a Ferrari in the 60s-70s and he said...

Almost had to draw my gun "4 legged variety"

Shot a medium sized dog about three years ago which had somehow got over the "no climb" fence and killed our ram and wounded a ewe. Once I got in it realized it was cornered and turned to face me teeth bared. One shot from my M1911A1 solved the problem. The owner was down the road and had 14...

    Movies with English voice over

Early Bond movies did a real good job of dubbing certain characters. In Thunderball Largo was dubbed by Robert Rietty who also dubbed many other characters in Bond movies and other films. Domino was dubbed also because of Claudine Auger's thick French accent. I've been a fan of Wild Geese...

HVAP Rounds: How the 76mm Sherman Finally Killed the Panther Tank in WWII

There were no controversies as far as American armor goes in WWII. The Sherman has been dissected forwards and backwards and not found wanting even with the 75mm, which had one of the most effective HE rounds of the war. However, IMO there were two things which are controversial. 1. The HVAP...

    How did COVID change you?

My mental acuity has degraded also, perhaps not as bad as yours. I can still function in the classroom likely because of the teaching the same subjects though with slight differences from year to year.

    How did COVID change you?

Five years ago I likely caught it from a student whose father died from it. I almost followed suit. In the hospital for nine days and had respiratory failure and a heart attack. What's changed is although I am still active if I am working on chores around the property I don't necessarily...

The Lost Art? How to Read a Map

In the Gulf War we had a few GPS but mainly used Loran with a small MGRS converter computer. You still need paper maps. Even today, you still need paper maps and a compass given many hostiles have GPS jammers.

February 24, 1991, Gulf War ground offensive begins

Also the 100 hour ground war moniker was a political propaganda effort. It was a war from the start of Desert Shield in 1990 to the cease fire. Coalition service members in ground and aviation units were conducting recon, shaping ops early on. Lives were lost and outside of a few historians...

February 24, 1991, Gulf War ground offensive begins

Gen. Joseph Hoar, USMC took over from Schwarzkopf, not Pagonis. Pagonis was Schwarzkopf's J-4 logistician who was hired by Sears where his "just in time logistics" concept failed miserably.

OK you old men, remember Olympia Beer & the dots on the back???

Hamms on tap was pretty good actually. My Dad sold that too. I had a fair amount of Hamms gear. Btw, If you have ever driven by the Oly brewery note that they did have natural spring water running under an archway of the building itself. The problem was that water was "filtered" through the...

Something About The 1962 Seattle World's Fair

I was there when I was 9. It was a great time. The picture of the double Ferris Wheel brought back memories. It was the only amusement ride that scared the crap out of me. One time I went with my Grandma who could speak six languages so she was able to converse with several of the exhibitors...
