Its possible that the scope mount screw is a tad bit too long and interfering with the bolt. The hole for that screw is located right through the bolt rail in the receiver. Could be that the upward pressure from a loaded magazine is just enough to cause it to hang up.

I spent two years at Ft. Hood in central Texas in 1972-74. It was a great place. I always thought that if I ever left Tennessee, I'd go to Texas. But looking at Texas now, I don't recognize it anymore. Sad indeed. 😞

This is part of my problem. The rear sight is part of the cover plate and is not adjustable. Ordinarily, a minor adjustment to the rear sight puts me right on target. I can't do that on this gun. That's why I'm even considering a dot.
