Florida Open Carry Just Got Very Real

Agreed. OC ideas started with good intentions but can quickly spiral out of control and that can be detrimental to others.

What a Red Dot Sight Won’t Do for You

This. Learn with irons, first and foremost. I get why people gravitate to using dots ... they just are not my cup of tea on a defensive-use pistol. The dot however will give you options just in case you have to engage someone at distance (which LE will more likely have to do, than your...

    On subculture societal norms

I don't think the criminals take time out of their day to go vote, even if they still have the right to vote. It's the tragically uneducated and non-critical thinking people that DO vote that keeps gumming up the system. And every time I've been at my voting location, it's not the same...

What a Red Dot Sight Won’t Do for You

Depends on your use, and your eyesight. At close combat ranges, I'll say irons are just as good, if not better than dots. Sights and sight alignment are only secondary to pistol shooting. Number one is learning how to break the shot without moving the pistol while doing it. Until you master...

    Is Car Carry a Mistake?

Nothing permanently affixed in my vehicles. Gun goes with person, period.

    Another self-defense shooting in Florida

For those of you who don’t know, a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich.

If you carry for Heavens sake USE IT

It’s societal. Let’s be honest. This is ‘Merica! One can pretty much buy anything they want, within limits as it relates to guns. So people tend to think that if you pay a certain amount of money the net result at the end of the day is that you will be able to do it, to use it, to gain from...

    Another self-defense shooting in Florida

I don’t trust a jury any further than I can pee in a hurricane, no matter how good the facts may be. Over the years I’ve lost the ones I thought I’d won, and won the ones I was sure I lost. People are fickle. Put something like this in front of them and you just never know what they talk...

    45 Rowland

If you pursue, I’d suggest getting the kit from Clark’s Custom Guns. They are probably the leading “sponsor” of the Rowland platform out there today. I’ve handled a few Rowland conversions over the years … a Springfield Armory and an Hk USP so converted. Wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. I have a...

If you carry for Heavens sake USE IT

The answer is simple .... he didn't have the mindset that is required when you carry a gun. He was not prepared (mentally) to have to possibly take a life to defend his own, or that of a loved one and live with the consequences.

Always looking for a good knife

Yeah .... I use a Stanley box cutter for boxes and a real knife for cutting (birthday) cake. Maybe that's me, but I don't like a universal knife - I like 'em for various tasks.

    The 17 Remington Fireball

Ahhhhh......the lovely 17s. I had a Cooper 17M4 that I shot for years. Fun grass-patch varmint gun. Absolutely murder on ground squirrels, skunks, armadillos and any other small vermin. Still have about 250 pieces of new, unmolested 221FB brass somewhere. Thanks for the (short) stroll...

    Ammunition & Reloading

We have a gun show this weekend to celebrate America’s 250. Ought to be entertaining. I’ll make a trip in the morning, see what they have going on. I always look for reloading gear, spare pistol magazines and some ammo I can’t otherwise get locally. I might have to look through my “stash”...

    Another self-defense shooting in Florida

Exactly. Could either of them have just walked away and deescalated the situation? This is why you always, ALWAYS have your guard up. No matter who, no matter where you are. I just don’t trust people anymore in today’s world.

10mm for Self Defense: Is It Too Powerful?

Too powerful for what, exactly? No one ever said they had too much ammo - unless they were drowning or on fire. No one has ever said their ammo was too powerful, have they?

    Another self-defense shooting in Florida

Met the man once, many years ago in Arkansas where he lived. He was a large man, wore grimy coveralls and a ball cap. Drove what I believe was an F100. Simple man, very routine-driven. Had his breakfast each day at the same diner in Bentonville. You’d never know he was Sam Walton. I suspect he...
