    10mm vs .45 ACP for Self-Defense

I do not disagree but there is still the matter of eight rounds of .45 vs. 16 rounds of 10mm. As much as I like a 1911 in .45 ACP, If the SHTF I am probably going with 10mm. Just as back in the 80's I liked .41 mag for it's power and accuracy; the 10mm is pretty darn close but with a whole lot...

    10mm vs .45 ACP for Self-Defense

I can understand that. I have a modernized Springfield 03 rifle in 30/06 that my Father accurized. It is a nice shooting rifle. My Son has it currently.

    10mm vs .45 ACP for Self-Defense

Someone needs to call them and let them know it is the 21st century and there are newer rifles out by now.

    10mm vs .45 ACP for Self-Defense

Obviously, against a large predator, you would use a rifle anytime possible rather than a pistol, but my point was that the handgun they carry for such a situation is 10mm. It is one of the few pistol cartridges I would trust against a bear of any variety. Well, except for cuddly Bruce here.

    10mm vs .45 ACP for Self-Defense

I have a SA XDM Elite in 10mm, with 16 round magazines. This is some serious firepower; the Danish Marines, Long Range Patrol members carry 10mm pistols for the specific purpose of protection against polar bears. I still like to shoot .45 ACP 1911's and would not hesitate to carry one, but can...

New rifle on the way - I just ordered an M1A from SA.

    Leupold VX5HD 7-35 x 56mm T-ZL3 vs Steiner T6Xi 5-30 x 56mm SCR . Any opinions? I can actually get the Steiner for less $$$.

New rifle on the way - I just ordered an M1A from SA.

I will definitely be cleaning it prior to first time on the range. And I probably will not buy the scope until my next payday in another three weeks. So that gives me time for one or two trips out to shoot with the iron sights. That is a nice looking stock you have on yours.

New rifle on the way - I just ordered an M1A from SA.

I have been researching / pricing scopes and one that comes up as a very good price is the Steiner T6Xi 5-30x56. Has anyone got any experience with this one or a similar model? I will primarily be punching holes in paper and hitting steel plates out to 400 yards. I like the idea of the...

What Is the Maximum Effective Range of .308?

Ditto. My range goes out to 400 yds. and I have yet to buy the scope, but I did just get am M1A Loaded with the precision stock. I am going to take it out and shoot some iron sights maybe out to 200 yds. or so.

For all you newbies about gun(s) availability

Hawaii did not break away from the North American continent; it was formed by volcanic action some 28 million years ago.

New rifle on the way - I just ordered an M1A from SA.

It's here! It came in yesterday, but I didn't have time to go get it until today. Now to decide which scope to put on it. I bought the mount already since SA had a nice discount on it. I am currently leaning toward a Vortex Razor model, but can't decide on which one. FFP or SFP is a place...

For all you newbies about gun(s) availability

I lived in Hawaii for 6 years and it was a place that most firearms enthusiasts will hate, although it is not as bad as some other places like California. But the worst part is the lack of places to legally shoot and the hoops you have to jump through to do so. So, knowing this prior to...

    SOG KNIVES

Well it could not have been that many years ago, because the H1 Spyderco hasn't been around too long. I also worked as a Diver on the left coast, the Gulf of Mexico, Baltimore and internationally. Most recently in Hawaii for a submarine company until I moved back to the mainland and retired...

    SOG KNIVES

There are exceptions to every generalization and I would say that there are certainly some Benchmades that are nicer then some Spydercos and some Microtechs. But IMO the trend with Benchmade has been lower quality and higher price since they went factory direct to dealers some years ago. I...

    SOG KNIVES

Back in the 1980's when SOG started they were pretty innovative and well made either in the USA or Japan. Now not so much. They aren't bad but on par with brands like Gerber most of the time and Cold Steel. Benchmade is a cut above but is really overpriced for what they make much of the...

New rifle on the way - I just ordered an M1A from SA.

As a NRA instructor I am allowed to order 1 or 2 Firearms a year, directly from SA (shipped to my local FFL). My dealer charges me $55 for the transfer. The TRP Operator shown here is the last one I got that way. So it is not a scam but a very nice benefit to certified instructors.

This is the model I decided to get. I think it should go out in the next few days.
