Discussion: Ayoob: Why the "Plain Jane" 1911 is Right for Me

I'm not carrying my Remington R1 on a daily basis, but I'm so sick of the "how much stuff can I put on my gun?" mentality. My early R1 has a few Wilson & Brown parts to make it handle & run better. Sight are MePro tritiums. It's also got Hogue rubber grips. No fluff, no lights, no suppressor no...

Discussion: Two Biggest First-Time Gun Buyer Mistakes

Yep! And the guys over there are really friendly and helpful. I bought 4 extended mag bottoms and the grip safety from them. A bit pricey, but they work as intended. Have purchased some shotgun stuff (mag tube follower, etc.) from them, too.

Discussion: Two Biggest First-Time Gun Buyer Mistakes

I replaced the grip safety on my Performance Center EZ with a metal one one from NDZ Performance (https://ndzperformance.com/search-results-page?q=s%26w%20grip). It works perfectly. Shot it again a few weeks ago and let a buddy try it. No issues. I'm 5'5' and my friend is 6'3".

Discussion: Two Biggest First-Time Gun Buyer Mistakes

IMHO, there are a lot more than 2 issues; those are basic starters. Then we get into revolver or semiauto. Then we talk hammer-fired or striker-fired. Then we discuss how difficult it to load the mags in the semiauto. And how many rounds is enough? I have a Springfield Hellcat that I think is...

Discussion: Ichord Report: What If Congress Had Let the M16 Die?

While in the Reserves from 1973-1975, I was issued an M-14 semiauto with the plastic/fiberglass stock. I loved it. After hearing all the horror stories that came back from VN, I was happy to have that big pig rather than a Mattel failure. It shot really well. IMHO, it was unconscionable for the...

Discussion: Ichord Report: What If Congress Had Let the M16 Die?

Hard to tell from the photo, but that looks like a shrouded barrel... more like S&W M76. I'm guessing you know the diff betweem .45 and 9mm! :-)

    Discussion: Tarani: The Hesitation Escalation

Yes, IWI has a lotta stuff that could be handy in a crowd situation. Still, it's not always easy to avoid crowd/riot situations, but they are typically localized. As the author stated, if you find yourself in an uncommon situation, it's easier to try to get out of trouble early than to deal...

Discussion: Which Hellcat Is Right for You?

I've thought about it, buying just the basic gun and carrying that. I have seen and heard a LOT of firearm sources who advocate carrying a smaller, cheaper firearm, one you can afford to lose in the follow-up to an encounter. Whenever the cops take someone's gun, it takes ages to get it back. A...

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

I failed to mention that I can also easily carry a spare Hellcat 12-round mag in my left pocket. No mag carrier needed. That gives me 22-23 rounds. Should I be concerned that I might need more? I hope not! LOL! So easy to carry, quality ammo, a spare mag, easy to conceal... that's why I love...

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

Practice makes perfect, right? I'm no slouch with a speedloader; I can use them efficiently. However, I'm not ready to challenge anyone to a competition. :-) Assuming -- in a stressful situation -- you can reload using one in fairly workmanlike manner, I think that indicates proficiency. It...

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

I've seen people who can do superior things with less-than-typical equipment. The rest of us just watch and are amazed. Me, I have other more important things to do. LOL! :-)

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

I have a bunch of speed loaders for my revolvers. They're handy, but not that speedy! :-) For the vast majority of handgunners, you simply can't beat a mag swap.

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

I bought a couple X15s yeeeaaaars ago for my S&W Model 29 .44 & Model 19 .357. It was never what I needed or wanted, but they were functional. I no longer have either one... not sure where they ended up. Today, we don't have to carry large wheel guns, so our holster choices are many, as is our...

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

So you don't wanna conceal carry with a 30-rounder in your Glock? LMAO! Yeah, the "bullet holding part" can be too long, one of the reasons I'm really glad I bought the Hellcat shortly after it arrived on the market several years ago. The 12-round mag prints too much under a lightweight shirt...

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

VERY valid point! I guess everyone is more focused on mag volume. If you wanna conceal a "larger" caliber pistol, there have to be compromises. Your idea is doable. Someone needs to make this!

Discussion: Ayoob: How to Discreetly Carry Larger Handguns

I'm 5'6" and 170 lbs. I can carry my Hellcat in a Crossbreed Reckoning IWB holster under a t-shirt using the smaller mag. The butt ends up just ahead of my right arm, totally concealed. I try to combine with a patterned shirt to camouflage it even more. With good Hornady Critical...

Discussion: Which Hellcat Is Right for You?

Good points, all valid. I suppose one could buy low-power loads in many calibers, but the person firing the weapon is a factor as well. A lightweight gun is easy to hold, but conversely recoils more. But my S&W 29-2 8 3/8-in weighs 3 1/2 lbs, which would be a great candidate for lower-power 44...
