Anyone here have any experience with or have worked on a 1943 Remington M1903A3?

New to the forum & my first thread. I'm a first time M1A owner. I purchased the standard M1A with the FDE stock. I regretted not getting the wood so I purchased a walnut stock. My question is, what are the holes on both sides above the trigger group for? Thanks
