Rumble in the Jungle: American Tanks in Vietnam

I was with the 1st Infantry Division in 1970 when our AO was turned over to the ARVN. The division was returning to Fort Riley, KS, due to Nixon's Vietnamizaion program. Being a combat photographer, I was one of the last to leave. For my final assignment, I was assigned to go with an element...

    Fadir Tools in Ukraine

Here's an article from "The Guardian" that tells you a lot about the company: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/07/ukraine-toolmaker-kept-working If you can see a way to help them out, please do. Help them to screw Russia! Mike

    Fadir Tools in Ukraine

Head on over to their website and look up these: Recusant, your request stirred a very old memory. After I graduated from basic training at Fort Bragg in '68, our drill sergeant, SSG Jesse Cox, gave us some advice. "When y'all get to Vietnam, forget this hand-to-hand crap I've taught...

    Fadir Tools in Ukraine

I hope this is acceptable in this forum. Back in January, I found out about Fadir Tools in Ukraine. A quick trip around their site and I spied a couple of small axes that I though my sons-in-law would like. It took a couple of months go get them but they're worth the wait: The quality is...

    New to me Browning Medalist

Back in '74, I got my first real job so my wife & I moved to Salem, Virginia. I stopped by a little gun shop a few blocks from our home and spied a gorgeous Browning Medalist in the display case. Now, back then, I couldn't even pay attention, much less the $500 price tag for that sweet target...

Value of This Springfield, Nickel, .38 Super

That store has bunch of old Colts going back to 1851 Navies in .36. He's got a very nice WWI Colt M1911 that I'm trying to talk him out of and, so far, he just grins and give me "sideways looks." Good times in the gun store! Mike

Value of This Springfield, Nickel, .38 Super

I'd like to request some guidance on pricing this nickel Springfield in .38 Super. I cannot find much Internet info on it. It doesn't look like it has been fired very much so it's clean as a pin with no handling marks: Thanks in advance for your consideration. Mike

Flying the Bell AH-1 Cobra Gunship

I was a combat photographer with the Big Red One in '69 and one of 1st Aviation "Snakes" helped us out during a fracas. These two aviators with "The Rebels" really made a difference! I was trying to get a photo of the shell casings raining down outta that mini-gun but didn't quite get the shot...

    Where are the SA-35's?

I have a very early production SA-35 and sent it to BH Spring Solutions. They fixed the issues I had with it and did a refinish job on it while there. I was very satisfied with their efforts: The grips are from Hogue and it now wears a set of night sights from Springfield. Mike

    Guns Never Shot……

I've been using .38 Special from Defender Ammo. If you buy 1000 rounds, it prices out at 38¢ per round. I've been using their .45 Colt, too, and everything has been flawless. They're veteran owned, too, so, for me, that's a plus. Mike

    Guns Never Shot……

I have three Colt SAAs I've never fired. Their former caretakers didn't fire them, either. All have their original boxes/paperwork I also have a M-1D in it's DCM box with all of its accessories still seal in the original packaging. Mike

    A trip to the LGS started innocently enough . . . .

I sure hope that day comes much sooner than you realize! I'm going to the range tomorrow to exercise a '68 Colt with a 5½" barrel that I just picked up after having some 'smithin' work done. Mike

    Leather Holster Sticking on Draw

I've wrapped the firearms with wax paper (wax side out) and placed it in the holster. The process can be sped up by placing it in the sun for an hour or so. Mike

You're right about the letter and I have one. I could sure be wrong but I think only their master engravers "sign" their work. On the Custom Shops web page, you can specify a master engraver to do your work and, as you can imagine, it's pretty spendy. Mike

No, sir, I do not. It was done at the Colt Custom Shop and it's their "D" coverage. Mike

    A trip to the LGS started innocently enough . . . .

I like your sense of humor! Gotta tell you a good one. I was at the range a few weeks ago shooting a SAA with a 5½" pipe. I'd fired a cylinder and was ejecting the empty cartridges when a young man, probably in his early twenties, came over and asked about the revolver. I loaded five more...

    A trip to the LGS started innocently enough . . . .

. . . . and, not long after I arrived, the owner said, "I've got something you need to see." I felt that little "twinge" that I first experienced in Vietnam when something was about to happen. Well, not really but I recognized the look on his face. He pulled out a cheap-looking pistol case and...

    SA 35 with new grips.

I ordered the cocobola grip on my SA-35 directly from Hogue and I think they were around $75. I have tritium night sights (not pictured in the above photo) and got them Springfield. Tru-Glo made them: Mike
