When I was at Ft. Hood (72-74), one of our regular FTX spots was on top of a plateau that overlooked the air gunnery range. You'd never see the Cobras coming at night, but you could hear them. All of a sudden, the air was full of tracers and rockets and the ground was on fire! It was damned...

The problem with freeze-dried is that it requires water. A good bit of it. In the SHTF scenario, potable water may well be in shorter supply than food.

Over the years I've rotated out old MRE's several times due to age. I go through each one and found that mostly its the entree that goes bad. Pop Tarts don't fair well either. :rolleyes: But things like crackers, snacks, peanut butter, coffee, drink mixes and such are very well vacuum packed...

Driving a stick shift vehicle requires a certain level of skill beyond the average driver. Carrying the 1911 is the same. ;)

Army 1972-75. I ate a bunch of C-Rats back in the day. Ours were mostly Korean War leftovers dating in the 1950s. They actually weren't that bad. Especially if you got the ones with fruit or chocolate in them. And yes, I have eaten the dreaded Ham and Lima Beans. Certainly not a favorite, but...

Yes, the SA-35 just has the one thumb safety. I believe they did a great job with it too. Best designed safety lever I've ever seen on any Hi-Power. (y) Pocket carry? The SA-35 is a full sized, double stack service pistol. I don't think anybody makes pockets that big. :oops:

Walter Birdsong was fairly well known in the South. He invented the Black-T teflon gun finish which was quite popular for being extremely tough. Its a shame when the death of a family member leads to such anger. But it happens quite often. :(

That may be true of the J-frame. S&W has made many refinements in the design over the years. But the hammer, trigger, cylinder and timing mechanism is still pretty much as it was over 100 years ago.

He was scared and just kept pulling the trigger. Nuff said.
