10mm Defensive Ammo: Making The 10 More Perfect Than Ever
10MM defensive loads have come a long way in a short amount of time. Find out what wil get your perfect 10 on target with authority.

I thought it was compared to the .41 magnum? I agree recoil isn’t all that bad, now when I had the original Colt Delta Elite when they first came out many moons ago, I used Norma ammo, yes, it was kinda warm, and if you wanted to reload the empties, you had to look about 30’ over your right shoulder for the brass......That's a good article, especially for those of us who love the 10mm. They do make the recoil out to be way worse than it is. The only factory ammo I buy is the Sig stuff and it's not bad at all. My small batch buys are from Underwood, and they aren't bad either. Maybe just a touch harsher than a .45 acp 1911. I also make my own and go to the top of the box. Still, the recoil is just fine. I do dispute comparing a 10mm to a .44 mag. I did some penetration testing this last weekend on 2x4s, some older and slightly worn down stumps, and a sheet of plywood. A 10mm with Underwood 200gr hardcast went through three 2x4s and a 16 inch log before stopping in the plywood. An Ammo, Inc. 240 gr JHP did the same, and then went on to take a half inch chunk out of the sheet of plywood and went through another 18 inch stump. I found the expanded bullet in the dirt maybe 15 yards further downrange. The 10mm is a wicked nice automatic round with milder recoil than described but even loaded hot is isn't in the same ballpark as a mid-level .44 mag.
They started comparing 10mm and .44 mag recoil and velocity about 2/3 of the way down the page. There's no comparison. I have a Ruger .44 hogleg with a 7.5" barrel. The recoil is noticeably more intense than either of my 10mms. Yeah, both my 10mms throw the brass a long damn way.I thought it was compared to the .41 magnum? Yea, I saw that, wasn’t questioning you, just was making a statement that I thought it was the .41 Mag it was close to not the .44 Mag, sorry for any confusion. They started comparing 10mm and .44 mag recoil and velocity about 2/3 of the way down the page. That’s what a lot of folks like to compare it to. The hottest stuff I shoot through mine is Buffalo Bore Hard Cast. It’s not something I would want to make a range day (200+ rounds) out of.Yea, I saw that, wasn’t questioning you, just was making a statement that I thought it was the .41 Mag it was close to not the .44 Mag, sorry for any confusion.
