1911 CA compliant

So let me get this right, a CA compliant 1911 had the lock in the MSH, I did not know this and couldn’t figure out how a CA 1911 was different then others, thanks
yes, and the MSH which has the hole for the tiny retaining pin to keep that spring captured?

is NOT in that hole, (because of the lock) i found that out the hard way....but i was replacing that spring and the other parts with an Ed Brown as well as the MSH itself as well.

( i did not lose any pieces)

i cannot find any pics online of a CA complaint MSH.

here you go, a pic of the lock/key

since it has the "lock" that retains the main spring, so no need for that tiny pin in the upper right corner.

Yea, when I had a couple of there older 1911’s they came with key and lock
i was gonna be "dang" to have any lock on mine. so being i have replaced many plastic MSH's, this was a no brainer. i keep all the OEM, MSH's, in the original case/box the guns come in, and they go with the new owner if i ever sell any of them.

Yea, not into locks like that myself, S&W revolvers locks suck, had a 629 that when I fired full house loads would try to engage and lock up the gun

It’s quite easy.

I’ve done it on a few of mine.
i believe you and @Annihilator when you both say it's "quite easy"....as you both have done this.

it's just that for now, i am apprehensive about it, much like my first gun, my G17. (mostly right now due to the higher dollar cost of the 686+)

watching very good videos does help. when i "ventured" to do some work on my G17, it was still scary as i did not want to lose any parts, or make any mistakes. then every thing turned out quite well, and boosted my confidence to learn and do more.

maybe "in time", i will get up the nerve to remove the safety in that S&W 686+, but for now, i will hold off.

my next "want to do and learn" project, will be to fully disassemble my Tisas 1911, to see, learn, clean, lube all the innereds, then reassemble. i'd rather start with my "lower priced" 1911, than my high(er) dollar ones....."just in case", i make a mistake....or two.
