1911 Loaded vs Target Loaded

Just purchased my first SA 1911, a 9mm target loaded. Unfortunately for me I'm only allowed this model in 9mm living in CA. I really dislike the block rear sight, but I noticed the slide is cut differently that the standard rear sight.

I wanted to swap to this style sight (I believe its called dovetail?):

Does that mean I need a new slide? If I tried to just swap the sights out there would be awkward cutouts where the old sight was. Does SA even sell a new slide that I could just swap out?

Yes, the slide is milled differently then the fixed site model, sorry to say Springfield doesn’t sell slides or gun parts like that.

Contact Novak I think they make a sight that will fit your dovetail. You can send them your slide and they will install the sight if you want

Agreed, many here know that about SA.
But, in some ways, for some parts, like sights, possibly barrels, sure wish they did.
