My EDC is a Sig P365 Fuse with a barrel and slide Autoported by Mag-Na-Port. My previous EDC was a Glock 34, also Autoported. I have had none of the problems some people warn of from using a ported barrel. Furthermore, I've taken a retention shooting class and the only thing I noticed was a slight puff of gas that didn't disturb me at all. So I agree with this article.

had not heard of myth #6 - catching on fire. What a strange idea, but, something could catch in a very tight quarters enclosed situation (almost never when shooting happens) yet that seems remote at best. The rest of the concerns listed are nonsense. Use a port if you want, personal preference.

Everyone has an opinion and I disagree with yours. Your arguments are weak. Hot gases directed vertically out the top of a barrel will most definitely have a significantly more pronounced negative impact on your vision in low light than what is shot out the end of the barrel. If your arguments held any real validity I guess we'd see the military and every law enforcement entity running comped pistols but guess what.......we don't!

Common sense would dictate that if the author's arguments were valid then the military and law enforcement would have jumped on the bandwagon long ago to enjoy the benefits of a comped pistol......which they haven't. I'm sorry you weren't able to follow the thought process I layed out.

I have carried a Springfield V16 longslide in plainclothes (see avatar). I have never any problems. I have kept everything combustible away from the ports. I have fired all the heavy duty 45 acp variations (45 super, 450 smc, etc. ) and the port has kept the muzzle in place (and a heavy spring). The only issue is type of holster and clothes to cover the longslide. Other than that I love the V-16. I really think the military (I am a Marine) is too cheap to purchase decent small arms for the grunts (the worthless poodle gun, M16; and the under powered 9mm, in whatever model). As Col Cooper would say (paraphrased) “What do you need all those rounds for, to miss the target more?” If you need more rounds get a crew-served weapon.

I have used ported handguns for close to 30 years i guess. Have had two revolvers Mag-na-ported, action 3 inch Model 60 and a custom 4.5 inch Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum. Then I had a 45 acp EAA Witness factory ported pistol.
Never experienced any issues with them or the porting. The ports can get a bit dirty, biy mono more thsn the barrel itself. The. 44 threw a big fireball in the dark but no more than any other short barrel shooting full .44 magnums.

One could say military would be running some form of night vision where EDC you should be using some kind of light to identify your target. In which case I agree with the below video your eyes should be adapted to some light.
You’re coming in fairly confident in your assertions, have you shot a comp in low light? I haven’t so I went to YouTube and watched the below. Will try to do some tests at my range and will share results

So no one addresses NO light effect of portered home defense. If you get up in the middle of the night after sleeping do you really think the flash will not affect your eye sight. Just me, my girl and my dog. A quick confirmation that my girl is to my left in the bed. Anything else in the house is fair game. X300t will confirm target before justice is dealt with the quickness. Frenchie is 11" tall so she is safe no matter where she is. Nightstand rotates between Staccato XC an Prodigy comp. +p jhp's soon to land.

Same, just me and wife but like you will at least shine a light to verify before handling business.
For pistols like the Hellcat Pro the sight radius is reduced with the port placed between the front sight and the end of the barrel. Granted, this only affects folks that shoot iron sights, like myself. Red dot shooters would see no effect. I upgraded to an Echelon compact to get a little longer sight radius and larger grip than what my Hellcat Pro has.
One thing the author didn't mention is what happens when we have to use our EDC? We WILL be in court. My EDC's are all stock, except Tritium sights. With a leftist lawyer attacking you with' "why do you put a lighter trigger in it" or "why do you need a compensator?' I don't want to "give them any ammo" so to speak. Just my 2 cents.

Depends what state you live in and if you were justified or not. Almost no one in a free state who justifiably defends life or liberty with a legally carried handgun ends up in court.
You do yourself a disservice taking advice about what gun to carry for self defense from lawyers or people who represent concealed carry insurance companies.
