300 Blk Out questions

Thinking seriously about a truck/farm rifle, bolt action preferred. Currently using an AR. Now looking at the Ruger American Gen II Ranch model and I notice they have it chambered for 300BO. Interesting! So, any of you running a BO in a bolt gun? I have some experience in shooting a 300 BO in an AR, and we loaded some knock-off 147s in some once-fired brass, but I am curious as to the uses for a bolt truck/camp/farm gun.

Ought to thump a hog or doe within 100yards I would think. How are the Gen II Americans? Do they take AR mags? How is feeding in the bolt guns? COAL constraints with the mags? Appreciate any info.

I have a ton of experience behind a .300BO AR for hogs and occasional deer . No issue on either on .300BO. Proper shot placement of course.
No time ever behind a .300 bolt action.
My question would be on hogs, why a bolt gun? Catch more than 2 in a field and you wont rip off shot #3 before they are long gone

The only reason I’d go bolt in .300BO is for dead quiet suppression.

But: I’ve buddies with those Ruger Ranches in both .223 & .300, and they’re quite pleased with them. The .223 is particularly accurate, iirc.

And, fwiw—subsonic .300’s through a can on a bolt gun are really, REALLY quiet.

Moriarti Arms runs some nice .300 BO parts specials, uppers, etc.
My buds guide service runs 13 of them
Believe me I was checking them out when I saw your post last night. Nice prices too. My main concern is that I hear things about them being finnicky. 300 BK, not yours specifically. All mine run, all the time, every time. That's what I want. I don't feel like screwing around with gas blocks and other BS.

hNo issues.
Daughters SBR runs like a rock star.

Though, some suppressor brands/ AR brand combos may give fits just like ammo does. Though, I have had no issue.
I see PSA has a lot of good deals on 7 and 8 inch 300 BLK. I also read mixed reviews on some of them. I'm kinda thinking I want to go BCM or something higher up the food chain though. The idea with this one is definitely "Primary defensive, home/truck/backpack gun.

10.5” suppressed SBR with a 4’11” 95lb gal
Makes a great all around rifle for size/weight

I have at least six semi auto .300blk rifles and only one bolt gun in .300blk. .300blk is impressively quite out of a bolt rifle with a suppressor and subsonic ammo. Heres my Ruger American gen 1 with a Magpul stock and cheap glass that I threw on it to try it out. I prefer the Gen 1's smooth barrel as opposed to the Gen 2's spiral fluted barrel because of Ruger's poor job at smoothing the spiral flutes which can be sharp.

To run suppressed. Already run a 223 with 62gr Gold Dots that hammers hogs, but want to try the BO or maybe even a 308. Haven’t made up my mind just yet.

That’s what I was thinking!

But might go 308 ….. decisions, decisions!

Do the 62 gr work, because every hog we shoot with 62 gr runs off unless its an earhole shot. 62 gr 5.56 is waaaayy to light for big Tx hogs.
I have 1 where we put 14 5.56 rounds before it went down
