Honestly I can't disagree with the article but they forgot on little item that is very helpful.

A dog! Our Doberman worked fine but since she has passed, the little Chiwowwow thing
is a nice little alarm too. That is when he isn't in my lap asleep.
A dogs bark may certainly discourage them from breaking in. If they don't fear the dog, they at least know they have lost the element of surprise.

Big dogs are intimidating, they don’t have to be aggressive. My ex loved
Great Danes, very dossal dogs but a dog that can stand up and put his front paws on your shoulders and look you in the eyes you don’t mess with. My chihuahua is small but very aggressive towards strangers, it has to be because it’s small.

The smaller the dog, the bigger the attitude for sure. :)
