.45 super

The only standard 45 acp guns that would take a regular diet are the HK USP and HK45 (maybe the FNX 45 but not sure) as far as 1911’s unless specifically rated tread with caution.

I know the Federal 230 HST Plus P dan be hard on the so that tells me I would t run them regularly

But everyone can do whatever they feel comfortable with!

A friend of mine had/has one.

But it maybe better to go the 460 Rowland route since .45 Super conversion info seems to be unobtainable & you can shoot .45 Super through a Rowland conversion.

There's alot of old info out there on the net so that's why I'd go with a 460 kit.

Besides a "fully-supported barrel" its recommended to use a #32 recoil spring in a stel full-sized 1911, HS firing pin spring changes & mag spring changes.

This page openes but nothing seems to work (at least on my end) in the pages links. Ace Custom doesn't seem to be in business anymore.

Thanks for the reply everyone. I knew heavier springs would be needed and figured a barrel swap would be a good idea. Not looking for a steady diet of it. Just looking for a little extra oomph once in a while at the range.

The .460 might be a better option.
I’ve shot it in HK USP’s with no modifications, but they are designed for it.

Usually, you’ll need a heavier recoil spring in a 1911. Sometimes you’ll need heavier mag springs as well for reliable feeding.
I hadn't thought about mag springs but makes sense because of faster slide action. Thanks.

460rowland max pressure @ 40k
45super @ 28K
45acp @ 21k
45acp +p @23k

big difference between the 3 (excluding the +p). i know a person that has a 1911 460r setup, but not sure about spring pressure. it is suggested to use a brake with the 1911 and glock conversions. glock doesn't require as much spring pressure. going super in a 1911 w/o brake you might need to add 4-6# to spring weight. i've been wanting to do a glock/m/p 45acp to 45super conversion and not batter the frames. when tuned correctly it doesn't take a tole on the frames.

45acp +p max psi 23k
45super 28k
460r 40k

from what i can find 45super is basically the same as 45acp +p+ (28,500). so for debate if 45super can shoot safely in +p rated, answer is no unless it's at or less than 28k. i have standard and +p headstamped brass for 9 and 45 for just in case of mixup. now on deciding if i want a 460r or 45super for my next 45cal?

Talyn opened the Ace 45 site, warned of virus content.

Yes. I’ve shot plenty of 45 Super through my 4506 over the years.
But I no longer do so. I found what I believe to be the better mousetrap.

I’ve dropped back and settled on a 250gr poly-coated FP running at +/- 950fps, which puts it squarely in +P territory.

This load is virtually the equivalent of a 45 Colt load if you stop and think about it. This is taking the same sized bullet in similar velocity range and putting it an auto pistol.

Easily suitable for anything in the Lower 48.
There just isn’t a reason for me to run a 45 Super anymore.

I have a Glock G21 I put in a better barrel and recoil spring and shoot 45 Super thru it. http://www.45super.com/
My favorite is 40 Super, 45 Magnum brass necked to 40, both require a 22 or 24 pound recoil spring.
I haven't shot much 40 or 45 Super lately.

I have decided to getting a G41 slide for the Glock and just shoot 10MM.
Can't really go wrong with a 10mm. It's a capable round!

I’ve shot it in a Taurus 1911. I installed a #28 recoil spring and a flat bottomed firing pin stop. Also needed a Wilson combat extra power magazine. (Can’t remember the number, I want to say 47D but not sure.). Seems to work fine but still hammers the gun pretty good. If I was going to make a steady habit of it I think I’d add a #28 or #30 main spring.
