Hi,

I'll give the author credit. He seems to be a liberal in the classical sense, free thinking and open minded, rather than submitting to the modern liberal political thinking.

He rightly refers to firearms as the inanimate objects they are. I wonder if he discusses gun control in his book. I'm going to look for it.

EDIT: The author has a website with links to a lot of his writings and observations in many different publications.

Just in case you were looking for a new rabbit hole. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

While I almost stopped here “and more to gun culture than democracy-destroying right-wing politics.”, since to liberals, anything they disagree with is “right-wing politics”, I’m glad I stuck it out.

This is about the most honest review of gun ownership “statistics” I’ve ever seen from the liberal viewpoint. Not that it will make a difference to those who will still insist on gun CONTROL, to whom it is not just about guns, but absolute CONTROL.

when i first read it i thought it said, "socialist". ugh, still half asleep. i think there are more liberal-leaning people finding their 2a rights than we think.
I tend to agree Mike…a look at the demographics ( if that’s the right word) sure suggests that.

Sidebar: One thing I’ve noticed is Libs tend to think of a “right” as a “legality”. They can’t fathom that rights are founding principals of the law itself; the law must conform to and protect rights. Not the other way around.

Thanks for posting, good read. Think we have a similar path with North Carolina (Wake is in Winston Salem) being the place we got into firearms and actually at a similar age although he beat me by 3 years. Both came from extremely restrictive states, he California and I New Jersey. Don’t really follow any party lines so guess i would be a Moderate Gun owning former engineer now paper pusher

19,650 firearm homicides. i'd like to see the break down on that. ie; how many were in self defense, as a result of police action, perpetrated using guns obtained illegally, etc... i was on the cdc sight but couldn't find that information.
Want to read something interesting, check out the number of deaths caused by medical mistakes. There are several medical institutions that have looked into this and numbers are mind blowing. I read the one done by John Hopkins and a couple others. One thing that was interesting was when some of the death certificates issued by some hospitals just give date and time of death with no in depth explanation. Then there the list of the monies paid out to families when one of these types of deaths happen. I will close with this guns are blamed for deaths but cars are not and it's not apples and oranges it's death on the bottom line. My rifles were on a rack and they never killed anyone same for my sidearm hanging on a hook. Ok off my soapbox.

yes. i have seen reports on the numbers of people who die each year from medical malpractice and it is staggering. throw in fentanyl/opioid deaths and the number of gun related deaths seems rather small.

When I was a kid, my dad owned an auto repair shop. It was a small town and my dad traded services with our family doctor. I once heard my dad tell our doctor "You can bury your mistakes. I've gotta marry mine!"

I was hoping for an objective, to the point and neutral article.

But then...the author shows bias in his preamble with this less than objective, definitely not neutral comment...

"I find there is more to firearms than criminal violence, injury and death; more to gun owners than straight white men; and more to gun culture than democracy-destroying right-wing politics."

I think he is using that as a myth that should be dispelled by more sociological research. Did you read the article (his) with the link in that paragraph? It’s a published journal and definitely doesn’t read as someone pushing an anti agenda.
