I have a couple of firearms in this caliber, lever action model '89 and a 4" Smith & Wesson. Handguns in this caliber are best used with reduced loads and still get good penetration. Penetration in the rifle is incredible with full factory loads. I've sold most of my other "boomers" because this cartridge is so versatile . Shooters shouldn't be intimidated by this great cartridge. On the other hand, I no longer am deeply concerned when in Grizzly country.
