A second non US National with ammo in Wyoming

When I saw the story of the Mexican National with 180.000 rounds in Cannon City Colorado it perked my interest because I spent about 12 years on USP Terre Haute SORT team and made several trips nearby to ADX Florence. So this hits close to home for me.

Fast forward to yesterday well!

So yesterday a second Mexican National not legally here was popped in Rawlings Wyoming with 18.000 rounds of mostly 7.62mm (308)

The fact that Joaquin Guzman aka El Chapo is confined at ADX Florence Colorado outside Cannon City probably nothing to see right????

This is an odd story. I've heard it reported on local news in Colorado and they're saying that the guys had 180,000 rounds that they bought in Fremont County Colorado but another source says they had 18,000 rounds that they bought in Fremont County Wyoming?

Somebody on Glock talk posted the following

Judging by 500 or 600 round case weights, a 1000 round case should weigh 50 - 56 lbs. So, 180,000 rounds is going to weigh in the vicinity of 9,500 to 10,500 lbs.

From what I can find, a 3500 Series cargo van max load capacity is around 4500 lbs.

If that's true there's no possible way they had 180,000 rounds of ammunition

The weird thing is it’s 2 separate folks but they were both enroute to Pueblo CO.

And Glover mentioned they were both supposedly purchased in Utah. We shall see when they get into the weeds.
it is odd for sure

My question is, was Pueblo their final destination or was that just where they intended to get on I-25 and start heading south?

Colorado recently imposed a 6.5% excise tax on all firearms related sales. I suspect quite a few people are going to be buying their ammunition out of state now.

If these guys were bringing the ammunition to Colorado for resale I'm pretty sure that they could have marked it up enough to make a good profit and still underbid ammunition purchased in Colorado with the excise tax.

It’s going to be interesting to see what comes out of the investigation. We probably will only hear half of the story. Maybe it’ll be yet another “Flash in the Pan” story that disappears from the limelight.
