Another Reason To Never Fly Again

So according to the Director of Transportation…… aside from the fact that there are not enough Air Traffic Controllers to keep adequate staffing at major airports he went on to say the equipment that ATC’s are told to use is breaking down so often and so old that parts to repair the current equipment used can only be found on EBay.

Totally unbelievable and unacceptable.

Listening to something about that today with Newark airport. Antiquated equipment and not enough staffing has made a dangerous situation so they are reducing flights.

I only fly when absolutely necessary. If it’s within 15 hours i drive. I can listen to my radio in a comfortable seat, eat what i want and pick my nose.

WTF! Get the Military involved. They have Air Traffic Controllers. Parts on eBay?

They all like to point their fingers at the other. Fact is: BOTH political parties are to blame for this. Neither one had done a damned thing for the last 20+ years with regards to the staffing and technological obsolescence of the systems. Heck, the government systems are just as antiquated.

As a pilot it’s gotten…..almost untenable. Got this SAFO from the DOT couple of weeks ago. Interesting read. The suggestion to use the word: unable is…..unusual.

FYI: I won’t get on an airline.

i'd fly using vfr and land at municipal or other non-commercial airports. i guess i could still go ifr and land at the same type places, but you'll still need to wait for clearances above "X" altitude (don't remember enough of the rules about this stuff) not a pilot, just trying to remember things my dad would say or do. going from Texas to long beach airport we would hit 36-45k' (depending on which plane we were in) which is above all commercial aircraft altitudes (30k us restricted altitude on all non-outgoing of country flights iirc). don't remember how long it took to get clearance to get to that those altitudes or how far we flew (nm)?

I do both. The boss likes to go to smaller airports and occasionally the bigger one’s (class B). I prefer the smaller, non towered airports, but they’ve got their own problems. There’s a video circulating of a Cessna landing at a small airport in Canada and another Cessna damn near hitting him as he swooped in front of him. A lot of inexperienced ATC folks and pilots these days.

I haven't flown since 2017 and frankly I don't plan on flying again. It's not so much on the safety that's obviously gotten worse. It's about being packed like sardines and not knowing if the person sitting next to you is sick physically or mentally. It's a comfort thing and I'd feel better driving. Got a 1,300 mile drive to make up north before November. Hell that'll probably be the last long haul I make.

Not to mention most of the planes are 70’s and 80 models, and the people that do maintenance on them, I’m not flying I’ll drive 4 days before I fly!!
