Are you ready for Alligator Alcatraz??

no need for it if we just packed them up and sent them back to wherever they came from. The taxpayers are still on the hook for paying for it.
Proper legal immigration? Yes!
Sneaking across the border and calling yourself an undocumented migrant? No!

This. Our nation is made up of immigrants, However those came here legally. Those who break our laws just by coming here? Nope, don’t need ‘em.

From someone that retired from DOJ specifically the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
There is no need. There is a ton of bed space at existing Federal Prisons many within close proximity to airports. We run US Marshals JPATS airlift every week.

At the heyday in the middle 2000’s population was 220, 000 within BOP facilities now they are down to under 150,000 now (this does not count the ones in private facilities)

Also why the idea of opening Alcatraz is nuts. 1 they don’t need the space (they can’t even man Thomson IL with a 25% retention bonus) and 2 the cost to operate it is 4 times a standard prison

I believe this is a state project, not a Federal one. Florida is going after illegals on their own. They're creating their own little mini ICE. However, parts of it may be federally funded, so it will need Congressional approval.

And it isn't actual Alcatraz (aka San Francisco) that's opening, they're just giving it that nickname because of alligator-alliteration :ROFLMAO: It's a new facility smack in the middle of the Everglades.

A local jail here has an ICD contract so when this folks get released the jail picks them up to hold til ICE deports then.

So it has to pass federal inspections. That said my point is they don’t need it there’s enough empty bed space in BOP they could take the several half empty institurions consolidated those and have enough with staff to hold.

The press briefings that they will build anythjng is grandstanding for votes and voters don’t k ow any better but to believe what they sell them because it gives them warm fuzzies inside!

And my Alcatraz’s comment was because Trump wants to open the real Alcatraz in SF bay back up.

uSP Alcatraz was a financial disaster to keep running like USP McNiel Island Washington state was. The Feds closed McNiel Island years ago as well and Washington DOC took it but I believe it is scaled way back.

uSP McNiel Island was one of 3 original Federal Prisons with USP Atlanta and USP Leavenworth (not the FT but the territorial one next door) when the 3 prisons act was enacted in 1891.
