Best grain ammo for .380 guns..??

Old_Me

Emissary
noooo............not the best brand

the best grain for a .380, Smith & Wesson, Body Guard, EZ Slide...for self defense..??

case in point

i was at the club friday morning, and usually ALL the time i am all alone.

however another member had the day off due to the holiday weekend.

he had bought a new above mentioned gun, and sent it back to S&W 3 times

(it just did not and still does not cycle)

it got returned...3 times, from S&W, with "nothing wrong"

he wanted to use it for Self Defense, but he also has a Sig 365.

he himself, polished the feed ramp, and barrel

anyway, i pretty much said something like, "maybe it needs to shoot a higher grain ammo..??

he has tried a few brands..however.....

the highest grain he had was 90 grain.

the lowest he had was 40....

i just looked up on google, and it mentions 99 grain (Federal HST) is recommended

any of you guys carry a .380 for self defense, and if so, what grain bullet do you use..???

i don't know when or if ever, i will see this club member again.

but our next club meeting is Sept 16th.....maybe he will be there then.

thanks in advance.

This is what I have/use in my Beretta PICO, 90gr V-Crown JHP

A Glock is an entirely different animal than a .380 EZ. The recoil spring is a hell of a lot lighter. And those guns are prone to problems and ammo sensitive. The one we have has been trouble free through a couple thousand rounds. All 90 gr. The old man was carrying it with the Hornady FTX.
yes, i did mention to him if he had tried different brands..frankly, what he showed me, i never heard of before.

can't say i recall any of them now, just brands i never seen.

one had a bullet that looked like a phillips head screwdriver..???

Maybe reread the title it clearly states "best 380 ammo for GUNS" NOT EZ SW

I suppose you might look into what makes it an EZ slide. I’ll give you a hint. It’s the recoil spring. 🙄

Maybe reading more than just the thread title might not hurt either.
Very true and not limited to a non open mind. 1st is if you buy ammo and it doesn't run, buy different ammo until you find what works, or buy a gun that does... personally I dont care for .380. I consider it a comparison to .25 if you are looking for a mall defense HG.
Maybe you should consider reading the title too before passing judgements. Most importantly opinions are like well you know, we all have 1 lol. Anyhow have a good day sir and enjoy being an American, be Thankful that we have these rights of ownership in this glorious land.

I read the opening post. And responded to it brother. 💁‍♂️

My Beretta PICO was the last model before they discontinued it, the original ones was a biotch to rack the slide, mine is the updated easy to rack version, I practice with 90fmc with it, Sig ammo is to expensive and kinda hard to come by where I live, but I do use it occasionally just to know the gun still functions without any issues
